GREENCASTLE, IN—Calvin College junior Rachel Boerner has advanced to the finals of the women’s 400 meters at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships at DePauw University.
A native of Bergenfield, New Jersey, Boerner posted the fourth-fastest performance out of Friday’s prelims, clocking in with a time of 56.95. Boerner will run in the second of two heats (four individuals in each heat) in Saturday’s finals.

The Calvin men’s tennis team upped its season record to 3-0 with a pair of non-conference victories inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center on Thursday. Calvin opened the day with a 9-0 win over Davenport University. The Knights then claimed a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Lake Superior State late Thursday night.

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field program will send three individuals to the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled to be held March 12 and 13 in Greencastle, Indiana. The national meet will be hosted by DePauw University. Representing the Calvin men will be senior Jed Christiansen in the 5,000 meter run. On the women’s side, junior Sarah Reasoner will compete in the shot put and junior Rachel Boerner will compete in the 400 meters. The Calvin sports information office caught up with Calvin head coach Bret Otte for an audio interview that previews the upcoming national meet and the subsequent outdoor season. The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will send a combined total of nine individuals to the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships March 17-20. The national meet will be hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team will be sending eight individuals to the upcoming NCAA III Championships March 17-20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Meanwhile, the Calvin men’s team will send one individual as freshman Mark Rushlow made the national field announced earlier this morning by the national committee.
Representing the Calvin women’s swimming and diving team will be seniors Emily Roberts, Maggie Vail, Joy Leach, Casey Herman, juniors Monica Bressler and Caitlin Alexander and freshman Kristen Kinzer and Elizabeth Counsell.

KENOSHA, WI - Calvin College junior Sarah Reasoner (Cambridge, MN) likely punched her ticket to next week’s NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships with a stellar series of throws in the shot put Friday night at a last-chance (indoor) meet hosted by Carthage College. An (outdoor) All-American a year ago in both the shot put and discus, Reasoner took first place in the shot put with a strong NCAA III provisional qualifying throw of 44-7 1/2 Friday night. Reasoner’s series of throws included marks of 42-4, 43-9, 43-10, 43-5, 44-7 and 44-6. Reasoner’s previous indoor best this winter had been 42-8 3/4.

DEPERE, WI - A 12-point first half lead slipped away behind a flurry of first half turnovers in the first round of the NCAA III Tournament for the Calvin women’s basketball team Friday night against St. Norbert. With the lead went the momentum and the host Green Knights of St. Norbert used the reversal of fortunes to good use in pulling away for a 78-67 victory. Calvin led 16-4 in the opening five minutes but foul and turnover trouble continued to mount throughout the opening 20 minutes.

The regionally-ranked Calvin women’s tennis team picked up a 5-4 victory over Division II Ferris State University Tuesday afternoon inside Calvin’s Huizenga Tennis and Track Center. The victory marked Calvin’s second win in the last three years over the Bulldogs. Calvin defeated Ferris State 6-3 in 2008 with Ferris State defeating Calvin 6-3 in 2009. Calvin is now 3-1 on the year.

The Calvin Sports Information department caught up with Calvin women’s basketball coach John Ross Tuesday morning to talk about the upcoming NCAA III Tournament in an audio interview. The Knights of Calvin will open NCAA III Tournament play Friday at 8:30 p.m. (EST) against the Green Knights of St. Nobert College. Calvin will be making its 12th trip to the NCAA III Tournament including its fourth trip under Ross. Calvin is 14-11 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play including 6-3 under Ross. Calvin will be part of a four-team regional tournament at St. Norbert with Wisconsin-Stevens Point taking on Minnesota-Morris in the opening first round game Friday at 6 p.m. (EST).
Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for students, senior citizens and children.
