ADA, OH—Calvin finished second at the two-day Ohio Northern Invitational, posting a 3-1 tournament record. After splitting a pair of matches on Friday, Calvin rebounded to upset eighth-ranked Southwestern (TX) and then defeat Heidelberg in a pair of five-set matches.

BATTLE CREEK—Calvin finished in ninth place in the final standings of the two-day Olivet College Lou Collins Memorial Classic held at the Bedford Valley Country Club, posting a two-day team score of 614 strokes. After an opening day total of 304 strokes, Calvin came up with a second day total of 310 strokes.

DELAWARE, OH—In a meeting of teams that gained berths in the 2008 NCAA III Tournament, Calvin secured a 2-0 victory over Rutgers-Camden in the first round of the Ohio Wesleyan Fred Myers Invitational Friday afternoon. Calvin will face host Ohio Wesleyan in the championship final on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Ohio Wesleyan was a 4-0 first round winner over Carnegie-Mellon.

BATTLE CREEK—Calvin opened the 2009 season in strong fashion, posting a team score of 304 strokes which has the Knights tied for sixth place in a field of 14 teams through day one of the Lou Collins Memorial Invitational hosted by Olivet College.
Freshman Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) led the way for the Knights on Friday with a sterling round of 71, leaving him in a tie for third place individually. Senior Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had a big day for the Knights with a round of 75. Rounding out Calvin’s finishers on Friday were junior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 78, senior Kyle Harvey (Willard, OH/Willard HS) with an 80 and freshman Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 81.
Indiana Wesleyan currently leads the two-day competition with a first day total of 291. Calvin trails fifth place Albion by one stroke and is one stroke ahead of eighth place Hope.

Anchored by a hardworking, selfless senior class, the 2009 Calvin Knights volleyball team is ready to set sail on a new season.
After last year’s 26-5 effort ended in the team’s third straight trip to the NCAA III tournament’s first round, the Knights seniors are prepared to lead their team into uncharted waters.
Kelsey Sears, Sara Kramer, Katie Corbett, Nora Bruskewitz, and Rachel DeYoung compose this year’s ensemble of seniors, with Sears, Kramer, and Corbett as captains.
Women’s Golf Opens Season in Strong Fashion in Dual Match Against Cornerstone

The Calvin women’s golf team opened its 2009 campaign with a strong showing on Wednesday afternoon, posting a team score of 387 strokes in a non-conference dual match against Cornerstone at the Thornapple Pointe Golf Club. Cornerstone did not field a full team on Wednesday and as a result, did not post a final team score.
Calvin was led by the superb play of senior Emily Tuuk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who fired a round of 86. She was followed in the Calvin lineup by senior Kelli Visser (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 99. Freshman Elise Dozema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and senior Julienne Louters (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had rounds of 101. Senior Rachel Strikwerda (Holland/Holland Christian HS) rounded out Calvin’s lineup with a score of 107.

GRAND RAPIDS—The Knights of Calvin started the season off with a bang Tuesday afternoon in their opening match, putting the home team and cross-town rival Aquinas away with a comfortable 4-0 victory. Senior Natalie Veurink (Spring Lake, MI) had a hat-trick all in the first half of play to put Calvin in the lead, and Sophomore Kelsey McCallops (Hudson, OH) added in another goal to cement the victory in the second half.
