Volleyball Team Ranked 10th in AVCA Division III Top 25 Poll

The Calvin women’s volleyball team continues to climb up the AVCA Division III Top 25 rankings. The Knights are ranked 10th in this week’s poll, up two spots from a week ago and up six spots from their pre-season ranking of #16.
The Knights are scheduled to travel to Trine University for a conference match at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night. On Friday and Saturday, Calvin will compete at the Wittenberg Invitational including matches against fifth-ranked Ohio Northern and 12th-ranked Wittenberg.
Men’s Soccer Cracks D3soccer.com Top 25 poll

For the first time this season, the Calvin men’s soccer team has cracked a national poll. The Knights are ranked 25th in the inaugural D3soccer.com Top 25 poll released this afternoon. Calvin returns to action on Friday when it faces Otterbein College at 5:00 p.m. in a tournament hosted by Wittenberg University.
Women’s Soccer Team Shut Out at U. of Chicago - 21-Match Unbeaten Streak Snapped

CHICAGO, IL—Over the past five years, Calvin’s trips to the University of Chicago have been unkind. In 2005, the Knights suffered a 4-0 defeat to the Maroons in the windy city and in 2007, the Knights were blanked by the same 4-0 score. On Tuesday afternoon, Chicago blanked the visiting Knights once again, this time by a 3-0 score.
Greg Snapper Named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week in Men’s Soccer

For the fourth time in his collegiate career, Calvin sweeper back Greg Snapper has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer. A senior from Madison, Wis. (Madison West HS), Snapper led a strong Calvin defense at the Knights posted a pair of wins at the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament.
Snapper’s play helped the Knights defeat Wheaton, Ill., 2-1 and 12th-ranked Kenyon, Ohio, 1-0. Calvin has allowed only two goals in its first four games of the season.
Carolyn Nelson Named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week in Volleyball

For the first time in her career, Calvin College junior setter Carolyn Nelson has been named the MIAA’s Volleyball Specialty Player of the Week.
A native of Milan (Mich.) and a graduate of Milan High School, Nelson dished out 67 assists (11.2 per set) in directing the Knights’ offense in three-set sweeps of Albion and Kalamazoo. Nelson also totaled eight digs in the two matches. Nelson is currently averaging 9.65 assists-per-set.
Men’s Soccer Defeats Kenyon - Captures Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament Title

GRAND RAPIDS—Calvin defeated 12th-ranked Kenyon 1-0 Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament and in the process, captured the tournament championship for the first time since 2006 and for the fourth time overall.
Senior Alex McKenzie (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch HS) scored the only goal of the game in the 47th minute of play, redirecting a cross from senior Michael Holwerda (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) into a wide-open goal.
Women’s Soccer Rolls to 4-0 Win Over Kenyon

GRAND RAPIDS—The 24th-ranked Calvin women’s soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory over visiting Kenyon College Saturday afternoon at Calvin’s Zuidema Field. The Knights scored three times in the first half including twice on corner kick plays.
Men’s Golf Third at MIAA Jamboree #2 - Moves Into Third Place In Overall Standings

ALMA—Calvin moved into third place in the MIAA overall standings with a third place finish at the second MIAA jamboree of the year, posting a third place team score of 302 strokes, just one stroke behind Adrian and four strokes back of Hope.
Adrian continues to hold first place in the overall standings with a two-round total of 600 strokes with Hope close behind at 603. Calvin is in third at 609 followed by Olivet and Trine at 612
Women’s Golf Finishes 14th at Olivet Fall Invitational

MARSHALL—Calvin finished in 14th place at the Olivet Fall Invitational held at the Medalist Golf Club, posting a two-day team total of 797 strokes. After a promising first day total of 389 strokes, the Knights slipped back with a team score of 408 on day two.

KALAMAZOO—The nationally-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team improved to 5-1 overall and to 2-0 in the MIAA with a 25-21, 25-22, 25-15 victory at Kalamazoo College Friday night.
