Women’s Cross Country Team Sweeps Top Eight Spots And Posts Perfect Score At MIAA Jamboree

HOLLAND – Strong pack running highlighted a day where the Calvin women’s cross country teams took first place at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Hope at the Ridge Point Community Church course.

Calvin’s second-ranked women’s team took the top eight spots – en route to a perfect score of 15 points. Hope took second place in the women’s race with 58 points.

Senior Jessica Koster (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) ran away with first place honors with a time of 17:59.

Nick Kramer Leads Knight Pack in XC Team Win at MIAA Jamboree

HOLLAND – Strong pack running, a career-best race by a hometown runner and powerful performances by Calvin’s No. 1 runners highlighted a day where the Calvin men’s cross country team claimed first place at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Hope at the Ridge Point Community Church course.

Ranked seventh nationally, the Calvin men’s cross country team took first place with a team score of 21 points, finishing 56 points ahead of second place Hope.

The men’s race provided high drama as sophomore Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN/Illiana Christian HS) was locked in a fight for first place with Trine senior Darin King but surged with under a mile to go after powering up a steep hill and broke free for the win with a time of 25:03, 25 seconds ahead of King’s second place finish.

Men’s Soccer Forced To Settle for Tie at Adrian

ADRIAN – Calvin fired 35 shots at the Adrian goal but could not dent the back of the net as the nationally-ranked Knights were forced to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie Friday night at Adrian’s Performance Stadium.

Calvin (6-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 MIAA) outshot Adrian 35-9 including 10-3 in the first half and 9-0 in the pair of 10-minute overtime sessions.

Volleyball Team Defeats Alma in Four Sets to Remain Unbeaten in MIAA Standings

After losing a disappointing first set to conference rival Alma Friday night, the Knights responded in a big way, taking the match in the next three sets and handing the Scots their third conference loss.

The victory advanced Calvin to an undefeated 5-0 record in the MIAA, and a 10-3 record overall.

Men’s Golf Third at MIAA Jamboree #4 - Moves Into 2nd Place Tie In Overall MIAA Standings

KALAMAZOO - A year ago, the Milham Park Golf Club proved to be a stumbling block for the Calvin men’s golf team. On Thursday, the course became a potential building block for the Knights who are making a strong bid for a big push up the MIAA standings at the mid-point of the conference season.

On Thursday, Calvin posted a third place team score of 298 strokes at the fourth MIAA Jamboree of the league season, hosted by Kalamazoo at the Milham Park Golf Club, allowing the Knights to move into a tie for second place with Adrian in the overall team standings. A year ago, the Knights closed out their 2008 MIAA campaign at the same course, fading to a sixth place team score of 329 strokes, leaving Calvin in fifth place in the final league standings.

Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth at MIAA Jamboree - Team Score Second Best in Team History

HOLLAND—The Calvin women’s golf team produced a sterling effort on Wednesday at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Hope at the Macatawa Legends Golf Club, placing fifth with a team score of 362 strokes. The score is the second-best in Calvin women’s golf history at an MIAA competition, surpassed only by a round of 356 recorded by Calvin’s 2004 team at a league outing hosted by Trine University at the Zollner Golf Club.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams Remain Nationally-Ranked

The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams continue to hold high national rankings as the women’s team is ranked second in the latest Division III Top 35 poll released by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association while the Calvin men’s team is ranked seventh.

Van Sickel Providing Punch Off The Bench For Calvin Men’s Soccer Team

Calvin junior Kurt Van Sickel, a native of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, has emerged as the go-to guy for the Knights as of late, scoring five goals in his last three games.  His most recent score, a brilliant strike that found the net against Alma College on Wednesday, was the best of his soccer career thus far.

Men’s Soccer Opens MIAA Campaign With 2-0 Win Over Alma

In it first MIAA game of the year, Calvin recorded a 2-0 victory over Alma Wednesday at Calvin’s Zuidema Field.

With the shutout of the Scots, Calvin exhibited a potent offense, anchored by a poised defense, with a versatile midfield mediating the two.  Ranked 15th nationally in one poll and 16th in another, Calvin is now 6-1 overall. Junior Kurt Van Sickel scored in the first half and freshman Joe Broekhuizen added another in the second half to provide the scoring punch for the Knights.

Volleyball Picks Up Victory at Adrian

ADRIAN - The nationally-ranked Calvin volleyball team picked up a 26-24, 25-5, 25-22 victory at Adrian Tuesday night to improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Ranked 10th in the most recent AVCA Division III Top 25 poll released Tuesday afternoon, the Knights hit .310 as a team and were paced by sophomore Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) who had 16 kills, a .433 attack percentage and three block assists.
