Women’s Basketball Claims 78-44 Non-Conference Victory at Rochester College

AUBURN HILLS - Calvin rolled to a 78-44 non-conference victory over Rochester College Saturday afternoon at Oakland Christian High School. Ranked fourth nationally, the Knights are now 15-0 on the year. Calvin led 41-23 at halftime and never looked back, outscoring the host Warriors 37-21 over the final 20 minutes of play. Calvin’s post tandem of juniors Carissa Verkaik and Julia Hilbrands combined for 30 points with Verkaik collecting 16 points, six rebounds and five assists while Hilbrands had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. 13 Calvin players reached the scoring column as the Knights shot 47.8 percent from the floor and outrebounded Rochester 40-30. Calvin was 8-of-22 from three-point range with six different players connecting on at least one trifecta. Junior Kelsey Irwin and sophomore Shelby Sheehan had two three-point field goals apiece.

Women’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten with 86-44 Win Over Alma

Days after posting a 72-59 victory over rival Hope, the Knights were back in action, this time playing host to the Alma Scots. Calvin, ranked fourth in the nation in Division III, came into the game 13-0 and 6-0 in the MIAA while the Scots came in 4-10 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. Calvin remained unbeaten, defeating Alma 86-44 Wednesday night at Van Noord Arena. Junior Carissa Verkaik had 26 points and nine rebounds while junior Julia Hilbrands had 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Calvin also connected on seven three-point baskets including two apiece from sophomore Shelby Sheehan and senior Leah Mattson.
