GRAND RAPIDS – Marcia Harris watched from the sidelines when Calvin was saddled with two overtime losses to Alma earlier this season.

She never lost to the Scots in her previous three seasons, and, facing elimination on Tuesday, she didn’t plan on starting now.

Harris poured in 10 points in only 14 minutes, Courtney Kurncz led all Calvin scorers with 12 points and the Knights snapped a two-game skid against Alma with a 69-41 win in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.

A mesmerizing second-half comeback fell just short and the Knights (15-9, 9-7) nearly upset the first-place Dutch, dropping a 68-65 decision in front of a crowd of 3,175 at the Van Noord Arena.

GRAND RAPIDS – Oddly enough, the Knights have been trying to rehash the way they played at the beginning of season.

With the return of Marcia Harris, along with a nearly impassable full-court defense, they’re almost there.

Harris scored a game-high 18 points, Brook Van Eck added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Calvin routed Olivet 82-53 to register its fourth consecutive win.

ADRIAN – After two turnovers and one errant put-back on her first three possessions, it certainly looked like Marcia Harris hadn’t played since 2008.

But following the fourth, fifth and sixth trips down the floor, Calvin’s second all-time leading scorer was back.

Harris pumped in a game-high 28 points in her first game since December and led the Knights to their second straight pivotal win, an 88-81 decision over Adrian.
