vin College senior Marcia Harris has received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in women’s basketball. A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Harris has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV third team in the college division.

The Calvin women’s basketball team defeated Albion 76-68 on Wednesday night inside the Van Noord Arena. Junior Brook Van Eck scored 26 points while freshman Courtney Kurncz had a career-high 17 points. Senior Kristi Brummel added 16 points on the strength of four three-point field goals.

GRAND RAPIDS – The Calvin women’s basketball team found itself in a familiar place Saturday afternoon – in overtime. Unfortunately the Knights were unable to come out on top, falling 72-68 to Alma in an overtime decision inside Calvin’s Van Noord Arena.

GRAND RAPIDS – The Knights began their 2008-09 season by totaling only 10 3-pointers in their first three games.
Now, with a new-found proficiency from the perimeter, Calvin is getting used to drilling around 10 long balls per contest.
Unleashing a torrent of 3-pointers in the opening minutes on Saturday, the Knights jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead against Kalamazoo and would not slow down, defeating the Hornets 66-40.

OLIVET – The Calvin women’s basketball team used a three-point blitz to secure an 81-63 victory at Olivet’s Cutler Event Center. The Knights (9-6 overall, 404 MIAA) connected on 14 of 28 from three-point range including 11 of 19 in the first half as the Knights jumped out to a 46-23 halftime lead.

GRAND RAPIDS – Calvin coach John Ross was hoping his team wouldn’t have to rely on Sarah Partridge’s last-second heroics to beat Adrian at home – again.
But after the Knights’ 14-point lead suddenly evaporated late in the second half, it was Partridge who provided a game-tying 3-pointer with 31 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, where Calvin outscored the Bulldogs 12-6 en route to a 72-66 victory at Van Noord Arena.

Hope used a quick start and stifling defense to cruise past Calvin 73-49 Wednesday night at DeVos Fieldhouse. The Flying Dutch, ranked ninth in the latest d3hoops.com poll, held the Knights’ starters to eight points and forced 32 turnovers to notch their fourth straight win over Calvin.

The Van Noord Arena hosted its first men’s and women’s varsity basketball games on January 7 against Trine University. Earlier in the day before the games, local Grand Rapids all-sports radio station WBBL 1340 AM was there as WBBL sports director Bret Bakita hosted his morning “On the Bench” program live from the Van Noord Arena. During the program, Bakita interviewed Calvin men’s basketball coach Kevin Vande Streek, Calvin women’s basketball coach John Ross, Calvin men’s athletics director Dr. Jim Timmer Jr. and Mike Zwier and Sarah Partridge of the Calvin men’s and women’s basketball team respectively.
