Women’s Basketball Falls to Hope in Homecoming Thriller at Van Noord Arena

GRAND RAPIDS – Calvin’s regular season finale against No. 2 Hope ended in a loss for the surging Knights, but, considering the circumstances, it wasn’t a completely deflating homecoming game for coach John Ross’s squad.
A mesmerizing second-half comeback fell just short and the Knights (15-9, 9-7) nearly upset the first-place Dutch, dropping a 68-65 decision in front of a crowd of 3,175 at the Van Noord Arena.

GRAND RAPIDS – Oddly enough, the Knights have been trying to rehash the way they played at the beginning of season.
With the return of Marcia Harris, along with a nearly impassable full-court defense, they’re almost there.
Harris scored a game-high 18 points, Brook Van Eck added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Calvin routed Olivet 82-53 to register its fourth consecutive win.

AUBURN HILL, MI – The Calvin women’s basketball team stretched its win streak to three games and improved to 13-8 overall with a 91-61 victory at Rochester College in a game that was played at Oakland Christian High School.

Calvin College juniors John Mantel and Brook Van Eck have received MIAA Player of the Week honors. Mantel has been named MIAA Player of the Week in men’s basketball for the third time this year while Van Eck has been named MIAA Player of the Week in women’s basketball for the second time this season.

ADRIAN – After two turnovers and one errant put-back on her first three possessions, it certainly looked like Marcia Harris hadn’t played since 2008.
But following the fourth, fifth and sixth trips down the floor, Calvin’s second all-time leading scorer was back.
Harris pumped in a game-high 28 points in her first game since December and led the Knights to their second straight pivotal win, an 88-81 decision over Adrian.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Harris has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV third team in the college division.
Women’s Basketball Finishes Strong To Defeat Albion

The Calvin women’s basketball team defeated Albion 76-68 on Wednesday night inside the Van Noord Arena. Junior Brook Van Eck scored 26 points while freshman Courtney Kurncz had a career-high 17 points. Senior Kristi Brummel added 16 points on the strength of four three-point field goals.

GRAND RAPIDS – The Calvin women’s basketball team found itself in a familiar place Saturday afternoon – in overtime. Unfortunately the Knights were unable to come out on top, falling 72-68 to Alma in an overtime decision inside Calvin’s Van Noord Arena.

Sarah Partridge (East Lansing HS) hit a three-pointer with 1.4 seconds remaining to force overtime against first-place Saint Mary’s Wednesday night at VanNoord Arena, but the Knights fell to the Belles 72-68 in overtime.
