Sharon DeKleine Previews 2012 Calvin Softball Season

The Calvin softball team is off to a 2-0 start and the Knights are in the midst of preparing for a 10-game stretch of games in Tucson, Arizona, that will begin on March 17 and carry on through March 22. The Calvin Sports Information Office recently caught up with head coach Sharon DeKleine to discuss the upcoming spring break trip as well as the remainder of the 2012 schedule in an online interview. This year’s Calvin team features a youthful look as the team includes one senior, three juniors, three sophomores and 10 freshmen. Calvin’s home opener is scheduled for March 26 against Concordia (Mich.) with its MIAA opener slated for April 5 at Saint Mary’s.

John Sparks Previews 2012 Calvin Baseball Season

Calvin sports information student assistant Mitch Blankespoor recently sat down with Calvin baseball coach John Sparks to preview the Calvin baseball team’s upcoming trip to Tucson, Arizona, in an online audio interview.  In the interview, Sparks previews the rest of the season and breaks down the makeup of this year’s 2012 Calvin team. A year ago, Calvin finished 20-20 overall and in third place in the MIAA with a 15-13 conference record. Calvin will open its spring trip to Arizona Friday when it faces Norwich and Dickinson. Calvin will open its MIAA campaign on March 23 and 24 when it faces Trine University in a four-game series.

2011-12 Calvin Women’s Basketball Preview

The Calvin College women’s basketball team made big jumps forward during the 2010 season.  The high points of Calvin’s season included snapping an eight-game losing streak to the Hope College Flying Dutch, beating the same Dutch team again in the MIAA Tournament final in buzzer beater fashion, and making it to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007. The 2011-12 Calvin women’s basketball team returns 10 letter-winners from last years’ team that won 25 games.  Calvin will enter the season ranked sixth by d3hoops.com and eighth by Women’s DIII News.
