Calvin Baseball Team Gives Back - Assisting at Congress Elementary School

The Calvin baseball team has been active in the offseason but the activity of the team this fall has been in volunteer work at Congress Elementary School - part of the Grand Rapids Public Schools Association. Myrna Anderson, a senior writer from Calvin’s office of Communications and Marketing caught up with the baseball team at Congress Elementary School and filed this report:

Calvin Leads MIAA Commissioner’s Cup/All-Sports Standings Through Fall Sports Competition

The first set of MIAA All-Sports standings have been released and Calvin holds first place in all three categories. Calvin leads the overall standings, known as the MIAA Commissioner’s Cup standings with 90 points, four points ahead of Hope. In the men’s all-sports standings, Calvin is tied with Hope for first place with 41 points apiece while Calvin leads the women’s all-sports standings with 49 points to Hope’s 45 points.
Elaine Schabel Named First Team ESPN Academic All-American

Calvin College senior Elaine Schnabel has been named a first team ESPN Academic All-American in women’s soccer in the college division. Schnabel is the fourth individual in Calvin women’s soccer history to receive Academic All-America honors and the first individual to be named to the first team. Cara Jansen was a third a team selection in 1998 and a second team choice in 1999. A year ago, Calvin’s Allison Boender was a third team selection. The college division includes institutions at the NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA levels.
