Calvin/Hope Men’s Basketball Rivalry Set For Wednesday Night With Live Video Stream

The 174th meeting between Calvin and Hope in men’s basketball will take place on Wednesday, January 6, when the two rivals face each other inside Calvin’s Van Noord Arena at 7:30 p.m.
Hope currently holds a slim 88-85 series lead in a series that began during the 1920-21 season. Just 101 points separate the teams over 173 games, a difference of only 0.583 points per game!
This will also feature the second meeting of the year between the two teams as Hope edged Calvin 79-76 in the consolation game of the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Tournament Thanksgiving weekend.

Calvin Partners With Stretch Internet To Stream Video of Games From Van Noord Arena

Calvin is partnering with Stretch Internet and will be streaming live video directly to its Web site from the Van Noord Arena in 2010.

The first video stream to be sent to the Calvin Web site will be the January 6, 2010, Calvin-Hope men’s basketball varsity game. Calvin will stream the video and audio feed of the WGVU television broadcast for that game. Future home games in both men’s and women’s basketball as well as women’s volleyball will be a single-camera shot with house audio accompanying the video feed.

Men’s Soccer Receives NSCAA College Team Academic Award

The Calvin College men’s soccer team excelled on the field this fall, advancing all the way to the NCAA III Championship finals. Under the direction of head coach Chris Hughes, the Knights have also excelled in the classroom too.

The Calvin men’s soccer team was recently selected as a recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Award. To receive the honor, a team needed to post a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or above.

The Calvin men’s soccer team posted a 3.19 grade point average for the 2008-09 academic year. This marks the first time the Knights have received the NSCAA College Team Academic Award.
