Emily Ottenhoff Named MIAA Women’s Soccer Most Valuable Player

Calvin College senior midfielder Emily Ottenhoff has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player in women’s soccer. A native of Palos Heights, Illinois, Ottenhoff is the sixth individual in Calvin women’s soccer history to receive the award. A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Ottenhoff finished in the top 10 in the MIAA conference statistics in goals, assists and points. Overall this year, she has 15 points on the strength of six goals and three assists. Ottenhoff has also been named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year.

Greg Snapper Named MIAA Men’s Soccer MVP - Michael Holwerda Named Zuidema Award Winner

For the second consecutive year, Calvin College senior Greg Snapper has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player in men’s soccer. In addition, Calvin College senior Michael Holwerda has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Marvin Zuidema Award.

The Zuidema Award honors Dr. Marvin Zuidema, longtime men’s soccer coach and athletic administrator at Calvin College. The recipient is to be a senior selected for his contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics. Holwerda is the third player from Calvin to receive the honor and the second from his family as his older brother David Holwerda was selected for the award in 2006.

Volleyball To Face Wittenberg in Great Lakes Regional at Hope College

The Calvin women’s volleyball team will face Wittenberg University in a first round Great Lakes Regional match at Hope College. The starting time will be announced later this evening. Calvin (27-6) is making its 19th NCAA III Tournament appearance. Wittenberg (24-7) and Calvin played earlier this year at the Wittenberg Border Battle with Wittenberg defeating Calvin in five sets. It will mark the third meeting between Calvin and Wittenberg in the NCAA III Tournament in the last five years. Other first round matches will pit Bluffton (27-5) up against Ohio Northern (27-3), Heidelberg (27-7) up against North Central, IL (34-4) and Hope (30-3) up against Lakeland, WI (23-13). The winner of the Calvin/Wittenberg match will play the winner of the Hope/Lakeland first round match.
