Men’s Soccer Lands Four on NSCAA Division III All-Central Region Teams

NSCAA Division III All-Central Region Men's Soccer Teams

Four members of the Calvin men’s soccer team have received Division III All-Central Region honors as named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Named to the All-Central Region first team from Calvin are senior defender Miles Colago and sophomore forward Zach Willis. Named to the second team is junior midfielder Nick Holtrop while junior defender Dan Nederhoed has been named to the third team.

Rebecca Kamp Named Capital One Academic All-American of the Year in Volleyball

Division III Capital One Academic All-America Volleyball Teams

Calvin senior Rebecca Kamp leads the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Kamp has been chosen as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award winner for Division III volleyball. She is the third individual in Calvin athletics history to be named a recipient of the Academic All-America of the Year award selected by CoSIDA as Chris Knoester was so honored in men’s basketball in 1994 and Joel Klooster in men’s cross country/track and field in 2002. In addition, she has also been named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team while her sister Lizzie Kamp has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America second team. Lizzie Kamp is receiving Academic All-America honors for the first time while Rebecca is being so honored for the second time.It marks the first time that two members of the Calvin volleyball program have been named Academic All-Americans in the same year.

Calvin Fourth in Latest Set of Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Standings

The latest set of Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup fall sports standings have been released and after an outstanding fall sports campaign, Calvin College stands in fourth place with 262 points.Washington University (Mo.) leads the standings with 372 points with Middlebury (Vt.) second with 359 points and Amherst (Ma.) third with 264 points. Calvin picked up 90 points from its men’s soccer team that earned a national runner-up berth in the NCAA III Tournament last weekend. Calvin also received 64 points from its volleyball team that reached the Round of 16 of the NCAA III Tournament and 57 points from its men’s cross country team that finished 11th at the NCAA III Championships and 51 points from its women’s cross country team that placed 13th at the NCAA III Championships.
