Rebecca Kamp Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American

Calvin College sophomore Rebecca Kamp has added another prestigious honor to her growing mantel of awards as she has been named a first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in women’s volleyball in the college division.

A native of Orland Park, Illinois, Kamp is the first women’s volleyball player from Calvin to receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.

A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp is one of only 18 individuals that were selected either first, second or third Academic All-Americans in the college division which includes schools from the NCAA II and NCAA III ranks as well as NAIA institutions.

Calvin Men’s Soccer Team to Face Dominican (IL) In NCAA III Semifinals in San Antonio

The field for the NCAA III Final Four in men’s soccer is set. Joining Calvin in the Final Four field will be defending national champion Messiah (PA), Williams (MA) and Dominican (IL).

The semifinals are scheduled to be held December 4 at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.

Calvin (17-4-3) will face Dominican (19-1-3) at 8:30 p.m. (EST) with Messiah (22-1-0) facing Williams (17-2-2) in the first semifinal. The first semifinal game is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET). The semifinal winners will play in the championship game on Saturday, December 5 at 6 p.m. (EST).

Diemer Named Great Lakes Regional Men’s/Women’s XC Coach of Year - Kramer Regional Athlete of Year

Calvin College cross country coach Brian Diemer has been named the Division III Great Lakes Regional Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Diemer swept both awards late this afternoon as announced by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

In addition, Nick Kramer has been named the Great Lakes Regional Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. A native of Dyer, Indiana, Kramer became the ninth individual in Calvin men’s cross country history to claim a Great Lakes Regional title this past Saturday, running 25:45, nine seconds better than the next fastest runner. A graduate of Illiana Christian High School, Kramer also took first place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association Jamboree and MIAA Championships this fall, garnering MIAA Most Valuable Runner honors.

Calvin College senior Greg Snapper has been named an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American in men’s soccer.

A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Snapper has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team in the college division in men’s soccer. The college division includes NCAA II and III institutions as well as schools from the NAIA ranks.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program is voted on by the College Sports Information Director’s Association of America (CoSIDA).

Calvin College senior Allison Boender has been named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in women’s soccer. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American teams are voted on by the College Sports Information Director’s Association of America (CoSIDA).

A native of Grandville and a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School, Boender has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team in women’s soccer in the college division. The college division includes NCAA II and III schools as well as NAIA institutions.

Two members of the Calvin women’s volleyball team have been named Division III All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Sophomore middle-hitter Rebecca Kamp has been named a first team All-American while senior libero Kelsey Sears has been named a third team All-American.

Emily Ottenhoff Named MIAA Women’s Soccer Most Valuable Player

Calvin College senior midfielder Emily Ottenhoff has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player in women’s soccer. A native of Palos Heights, Illinois, Ottenhoff is the sixth individual in Calvin women’s soccer history to receive the award. A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Ottenhoff finished in the top 10 in the MIAA conference statistics in goals, assists and points. Overall this year, she has 15 points on the strength of six goals and three assists. Ottenhoff has also been named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year.

Greg Snapper Named MIAA Men’s Soccer MVP - Michael Holwerda Named Zuidema Award Winner

For the second consecutive year, Calvin College senior Greg Snapper has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player in men’s soccer. In addition, Calvin College senior Michael Holwerda has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Marvin Zuidema Award.

The Zuidema Award honors Dr. Marvin Zuidema, longtime men’s soccer coach and athletic administrator at Calvin College. The recipient is to be a senior selected for his contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics. Holwerda is the third player from Calvin to receive the honor and the second from his family as his older brother David Holwerda was selected for the award in 2006.

Volleyball To Face Wittenberg in Great Lakes Regional at Hope College

The Calvin women’s volleyball team will face Wittenberg University in a first round Great Lakes Regional match at Hope College. The starting time will be announced later this evening. Calvin (27-6) is making its 19th NCAA III Tournament appearance. Wittenberg (24-7) and Calvin played earlier this year at the Wittenberg Border Battle with Wittenberg defeating Calvin in five sets. It will mark the third meeting between Calvin and Wittenberg in the NCAA III Tournament in the last five years. Other first round matches will pit Bluffton (27-5) up against Ohio Northern (27-3), Heidelberg (27-7) up against North Central, IL (34-4) and Hope (30-3) up against Lakeland, WI (23-13). The winner of the Calvin/Wittenberg match will play the winner of the Hope/Lakeland first round match.
