2010 Calvin Women's Cross Country Schedule
After graduating five members of its team that competed at the 2009 NCAA III Cross Country Championships, the 2010 Calvin women’s cross country team will feature a different look this fall.
The cupboard is not completely bare however.
The Knights return 11 varsity letterwinners including three that were named to the All-MIAA first and one that was named to the All-MIAA second team.

The pre-season Division III Top 25 men’s soccer poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America has been released and Calvin is ranked second behind defending national champion Messiah College.

Women's NSCAA Division III Top-25 Preseason Poll
The preseason Division III Top 25 women’s soccer poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America has been released and Calvin is ranked 15th.
A year ago under the direction of head coach Mark Recker, Calvin finished 16-5-1 overall and advanced to the NCAA III Quarterfinals for the second time in four years. Calvin also captured the MIAA regular season title for a fifth straight year, finishing 7-1-0 in league play.

ITA Division III Women's Academic Awards
For the third consecutive year, the Calvin women’s tennis team has received the ITA All-Academic Award. All three awards have come under current head coach Jerry Bergsma.
In order to receive the award, a team needed to maintain a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above for the 2009-10 academic year. The Calvin women’s tennis team posted a team grade point average of 3.422 during the 2009-10 academic year.

ITA Division III All-Academic Awards
For the sixth consecutive year, the Calvin men’s tennis team has received the ITA All-Academic Award. All six awards have come under the watch of current Calvin men’s tennis coach John Ross.
In order to receive the award, a team needed to maintain a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above for the 2009-10 academic year. The Calvin men’s tennis team posted a team grade point average of 3.288 during the 2009-10 academic year.
Megann Rhode Named to Canadian Track & Field Team To Compete at Commonwealth Games

Canadian Track & Field Commomwealth Games Announcement
Megann Rhode, a 2007 Calvin College graduate, has been selected to represent Canada in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India. Rhode will compete in the hammer throw for Canada with the games scheduled to be held October 6-12.
Rhode is one of three hammer throwers on the Canadian track and field team that will travel to India for the Commonwealth Games.

2010 Hartman Writing Award Winning Entry on Jon & Ben Kuiper
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the winner of the Hartman Writing Award.

Jeff Febus, sports information director at Calvin College, has been named the winner of the Hartman Writing Award. The award honors the memory of former Albion College Sports Information Director Robin Hartman who passed away in August of 2006. At the time of his death, Hartman was the prep sports editor for the Fort Wayne News Sentinel. Robin Hartman Memorial Tribute. The Hartman Award honors outstanding writing in a sports information capacity, either by a sports information director or assistant
This is the third year of the Hartman Writing Award. Each year, the winner has been selected by a member of the current Fort Wayne News Sentinel staff.

NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the men’s 2010 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team. A total of 330 student-athletes representing 99 institutions compose the group. Calvin was second among all squads with 10 individuals so honored with Wartburg first with 12. Individuals from the Calvin women’s track and field team that received USTFCCA All-Academic status include Rachel Boerner, Gretchen Braymer, Sarah Dugan, Nicole Farr, Jordan Gabrielse, Jessica Koster, Joy Leach, Alyssa Penning, Mary Tolsma and Rebekah VanDyk.

USTFCCA All-Academic Men's Track & Field Announcement
NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the men’s 2010 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team. A total of 202 student-athletes representing 74 institutions compose the group. Calvin’s Jed Christiansen, Aaron Goodman and Ben Van Wyk have all been selected to the honor list.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.

AVCA Team Academic Award Recipients
The Calvin women’s volleyball team has achieved success on the court. Now the Knights are being recognized for their success in the classroom.
The Calvin women’s volleyball team has received the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
