Rebecca Kamp Named AVCA Division III National Player of the Year

ST. LOUIS, MO - Calvin College senior Rebecca Kamp has received the highest honor in Division III volleyball. On Thursday night at the Division III All-America banquet ceremony, Kamp was named the Division III National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp is the first individual in Calvin women’s volleyball history to receive the award. A native of Orland Park, Illinois, Kamp recently was named a first team All-American for the fourth straight year. She is one of only two individuals in Division III women’s volleyball history to receive first team All-America honors four straight years.

Three members of the Calvin women’s volleyball team have been named Division III All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Senior Rebecca Kamp has been named a first team All-American for the fourth straight year while sophomore Megan Rietema has been named a first team All-American for the first time. In addition, junior Lizzie Kamp has been named a second team All-American, also receiving the honor for the first time. A native of Orland Park, Illinois, Rebecca Kamp is the second four-time first team AVCA All-American in NCAA III women’s volleyball history, joining Christy Orndorff of Juniata (Pa) who did so from 1991-to-1994. A middle-hitter, she is also one of nine four-time All-Americans in Division III women’s volleyball history as seven others did so by combination of being named first, second or third team during their four years of collegiate competition. Finally, senior Erin VanderPlas has been named an honorable mention All-American.
Amber Warners Named 2011 AVCA Division III Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year

For the third time in her collegiate coaching career, Amber Warners has been named the AVCA Division III Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year. Under her direction, the Knights finished the 2011 regular season a perfect 31-0 , capturing the MIAA regular season MIAA Tournament titles. Heading into NCAA III Tournament play, her team was ranked number-one in the country - a position that Calvin has held since the preseason. Warners was named AVCA National Coach of the Year in 2010, and took home AVCA Division III Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors in 2006 and 2008. Heading into tonight’s second round NCAA III Tournament match, Warners has a career record of 315-67 (.825) at the collegiate level including 294-56 (.840) in 10 years at Calvin.
