Former Calvin Volleyball Standout Named To Grace Bible College Hall of Fame

The Lightning Bolt is headed to the Hall of Fame.

Calvin’s associate director of communications and marketing Lynn (Bolt) Rosendale has been inducted into the Grace Bible College Hall of Fame for her years coaching volleyball. She coached at Grace from 1989-1993, leading the Tigers to regional championships and national tournaments in all five seasons. In 1991, Grace finished third at nationals, the highest in school history. Rosendale will be inducted tomorrow as the first women’s team coach ever in the Grace Bible College Hall of Fame history. With a nickname of “Lightning Bolt,” Rosendale ’85 was the middle hitter on Calvin’s volleyball team for four years, earning first team all-MIAA honors three times. In 1984, she was part of a Calvin volleyball team that finished fourth in the NCAA III Tournament.

Women’s Basketball Ranked 19th in WDIII News Pre-Season Poll - Verkaik Named Pre-Season All-American

The Calvin women’s basketball team is ranked 19th in the pre-season Top 25 poll released by Women’s Division III News. A year ago, Calvin finished 24-5 overall and advanced to the NCAA III Tournament. The Knights return 2010 MIAA MVP Carissa Verkaik who heads into her sophomore season. A native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Verkaik has been named a pre-season All-American by Women’s Division III News. Verkaik averaged 18.1 points and 9.4 rebounds a game during her freshman campaign. The Calvin women’s basketball team will open its season on November 16 when it hosts Manchester College at Van Noord Arena.

Men’s Soccer Receives #1 Ranking in NSCAA Division III Top 25 Poll

For the first time in school history, the Calvin men’s soccer team holds the top spot in the Division III National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll. The Knights move up a spot this week after starting off the season with a pair of victories. Defending national champion Messiah (PA) held the pre-season number-one spot but suffered a 2-1 loss to Hobart (NY) Friday night and dropped to #17 in this week’s poll. Hobart is now ranked second.
