Women’s Soccer Headed to Ohio to Face Otterbein College in NCAA III Tournament

The Calvin women’s soccer team is headed to Ohio for NCAA III Tournament competition. The Knights will face host Otterbein College in a first round NCAA III Tournament game on Friday, November 12 at 11 a.m.. Located in the northern suburbs of Columbus, Ohio (Westerville), Otterbein (18-0-1) will host a four-team regional that will also include Allegheny (14-2-4) and Washington University of St. Louis (10-7-2). The Calvin/Otterbein winner will face the Allegheny/Wash. U. winner on Saturday, November 13. Calvin is making its sixth consecutive NCAA III Tournament appearance under head coach Mark Recker and its eighth appearance overall. The Knights are 7-3-5 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play and advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2006 and 2009. Calvin will be making its second trip to Otterbein for NCAA III Tournament play as the Knights journeyed to Westerville for the 2005 tournament where it tied Ohio Wesleyan 2-2 before falling in a penalty kick shootout. Calvin and Otterbein will be facing each other for the first time in NCAA III Tournament play. However, the two teams met in an early September contest in 2009 with Calvin winning 3-0.

Rebecca Kamp Named MIAA MVP - Megan Rietema Named MIAA Freshman of The Year

The 2010 All-MIAA volleyball teams were announced at the conclusion of the MIAA Tournament Saturday afternoon and several Calvin players were honored. Junior Rebecca Kamp highlights the lead of Calvin honorees as she has been named the 2010 MIAA Most Valuable Player. She is joined on the All-MIAA first team from Calvin by younger sister Lizzie Kamp and freshman Megan Rietema. Rietema has also been named the MIAA’s Freshman of the Year. In addition, junior middle-blocker Renee DeHaan has been named to the All-MIAA second team.

Rebecca Kamp Named to ESPN Academic All-District Second Team

Calvin College junior Rebecca Kamp has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV second team in women’s volleyball in the college division. The college division includes NCAA II and III schools as well as NAIA institutions. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program is organized and voted on by the College Sports Information Director’s Association (CoSIDA) of America.
Kamp carries a 3.88 grade point average while majoring in special education and minoring in mathematics.
