Women’s Soccer Defeats Kalamazoo 4-1 on the Road To Move Into Tie For Fourth Place in MIAA Standings

KALAMAZOO - Needing a victory to remain in the hunt for a spot in the four-team MIAA Tournament, Calvin did just that, defeating Kalamazoo College 4-1 Thursday afternoon at the Kalamazoo Community Soccer Complex. The victory bumps Calvin into a tie for fourth place in the MIAA standings with Kalamazoo. Both teams are now 5-3-0 in league play. The top four teams at the conclusion of the MIAA regular season will advance to the four-team MIAA Tournament. Thursday’s game marked the conclusion of the first half of the MIAA’s double round robin schedule. Calvin put together one of its finest performances of the season in Thursday’s victory as the Knights (5-7-0 overall) outshot Kalamazoo (6-5-1) 15-4, scoring three second half goals including two in the final 15 minutes to seal the win.

Women’s Soccer Defeated by Hope 3-2 at Calvin’s Zuidema Field

After dropping a tough game at Adrian on Saturday, the Knights women’s soccer team looked to rebound on an sun-splashed Tuesday afternoon as they played host to rival Hope. Coming into play with identical 4-2 conference records, the game promised to be a good one. The match lived up to its billing but unfortunately for the Knights, they wound up on the wrong side of the scoreboard in a game won by Hope 3-2. Freshman Sam Osterhaven and junior Liz Cancel accounted for Calvin’s goals.

Women’s Soccer Falls at Adrian 3-1 as Bulldogs Score Twice in Final Minutes

ADRIAN - Calvin suffered a tough 3-1 defeat at Adrian Saturday afternoon. Calvin outshot the host Bulldogs 13-9 but Adrian scored two goals in the final 11 minutes of regulation to seal the win. With the win, Adrian improves to 5-1-0 in the league, one point behind 5-1-1 Alma while Calvin falls to 4-2-0 in the league and is tied with Hope (4-2-0) for fourth place in the league standings with Kalamazoo in third place at 5-2-0. Calvin’s lone goal was scored by sophomore Kelly Koets off a pass from junior Francesa Smith. Calvin returns to action next Tuesday when it hosts the Flying Dutch at Hope at 4 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
