Women’s Soccer Edges Saint Mary’s 2-1 on Last-Second Goal by Francesca Smith

Coming off two strong wins against conference opponents, the Calvin women’s soccer team was looking to continue its win streak against the visiting Belles of St. Mary’s.Fighting back and forth in the first half, neither team was able to put the ball in the opposing team’s net, putting the game at 0-0 at halftime. Calvin then picked up two second half goals from junior Francesca Smith to gain the win with Smith’s second tally breaking a 1-1 tie with just 11 seconds left in regulation. The 2-1 Calvin victory boosts the Knights to 4-5-0 overall and to 4-1-0 in the MIAA. The Knights are tied for second place in the league standings with Adrian and will travel to Adrian on Saturday for a game slated to start at noon at Adrian’s Performance Stadium.
Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Olivet 3-0 - Remains in Thick of Heated MIAA Race

Entering its third contest in five days, the Calvin women’s soccer team was looking for some extra energy as it hosted the Comets of Olivet. The Comets, also playing in their third game of the week and entering play with an 0-8 overall record, were not to be overlooked, however. For one half of play, neither team was able to dent the back of the net but Calvin broke loose in the second half for three goals including two from junior Francesca Smith to record a 3-0 win. The Knights are now 3-1-0 in league play and just a half-game behind league-leading Alma (4-1-0 MIAA) which defeated Hope 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Women’s Soccer Picks Up 4-1 Victory at Albion Behind Osterhaven Hat-Trick

ALBION - The Calvin women’s soccer team got back on the winning track with a 4-1 victory Thursday afternoon at Albion College. Freshman Samantha Osterhaven (Caledonia/South Christian HS) led the Calvin charge by scoring her first three collegiate goals all in Thursday’s win over the Britons. The hat-trick performance helped propel the Knights to a 4-0 lead with Albion scoring a second half goal to bring the final margin of victory to three. Junior Liz Cancel (St. Clair Shores/Fraser HS) also scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season for the Knights. Calvin (2-5-0 overall, 2-1-0 MIAA) will host Olivet on Saturday at noon.
