Women’s Soccer Eliminated From MIAA Tournament With 3-1 Shootout Loss to Kalamazoo

GRAND RAPIDS—Calvin’s run through the MIAA Tournament was a short one as the Knights were eliminated in the MIAA Tournament semifinals on Tuesday afternoon by way of a penalty kick shootout. Tuesday’s semifinal contest will go in the books as a 0-0 double-overtime tie but the Hornets (8-6-4) advanced to Saturday’s MIAA Tournament final by defeating Calvin 3-1 in a penalty kick shootout. Kalamazoo will host Albion in Saturday’s MIAA Tournament final with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament. Sixth-seeded Albion defeated second-seeded Adrian 1-0 in overtime in Tuesday’s other semifinal.

The Calvin women’s soccer team will host Kalamazoo at 3:00 p.m. in an MIAA Tournament semifinal game next Tuesday. Kalamazoo defeated Hope 1-0 in a first round game on Saturday. Adrian will host Albion in the other semifinal game on Tuesday. Albion advanced in the tournament by winning a penalty kick shootout at Alma 3-2 on Saturday. As the top two seeds in the tournament, Calvin and Adrian received first round byes.
Calvin Men’s/Women’s Soccer Players Receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors

Four members of the Calvin women’s soccer team and two members of the Calvin men’s soccer team have received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors.
On the women’s side, senior Allison Boender has been named to the Academic All-District IV first team while seniors Kayla Sulzer and Natalie Veurink and junior Elaine Schnabel have been named to the second team.
On the men’s side, seniors Michael Holwerda and Greg Snapper have been named to the Academic All-District IV first team.
