Men’s Soccer Clipped By Late Hope Goal in 2-1 Loss

For the second time this season the Flying Dutch of Hope stunned Calvin with late game heroics as the Knights fell at home 2-1 Wednesday afternoon in another intense rivalry match.  Calvin would score early on in the game and take the lead into the second half, but Hope rallied with two goals to defeat the Knights again for the third straight contest between the two rivals. Calvin remains three points behind league-leading Kalamazoo with the Knights scheduled to host the Hornets (18 points) on Saturday. Calvin drops into a fourth place tie with Hope however (15 points) as Adrian is second (17 points) and Olivet (16 points) third in the league standings.

Men’s Soccer Settles for Tie at Adrian - Remains in Second in the MIAA Standings

ADRIAN - On the road and against a tough Adrian team Saturday afternoon, the Knights led early but were not able to hold on for a win, settling instead for a 1-1 double overtime tie against the Bulldogs.  Calvin created a number of chances on goal but had trouble testing Adrian’s keeper with good shots, and goalkeeper Ryan Bratt (Silver Spring, MD) also made some huge saves to keep Calvin from falling behind.

Men’s Soccer Ties Trine 1-1 - Falls Out of First Place in MIAA Standings

ANGOLA, IN - The see-saw MIAA men’s soccer race took another twist on Tuesday as Calvin tied Trine 1-1 Tuesday afternoon. The tie drops Calvin out of sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings and into second place, two points behind Kalamazoo (5-2-0 MIAA) which defeated Albion 3-0 on Tuesday. Calvin (4-1-2 MIAA) holds a one-point lead over third place Adrian, Olivet and Trine which are all 4-2-1 on the year. Calvin got on the board in the 54th minute on a goal by senior Lucas Wilgenburg on shot off a corner kick play. Trine came back to tie the game five minutes later however and neither team would score again. Calvin finished with a 16-15 shots at goal advantage. Calvin goalkeeper Ryan Bratt had five saves for Calvin in the contest.
