Greg Snapper Named MIAA Men’s Soccer MVP - Michael Holwerda Named Zuidema Award Winner

For the second consecutive year, Calvin College senior Greg Snapper has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player in men’s soccer. In addition, Calvin College senior Michael Holwerda has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Marvin Zuidema Award.
The Zuidema Award honors Dr. Marvin Zuidema, longtime men’s soccer coach and athletic administrator at Calvin College. The recipient is to be a senior selected for his contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics. Holwerda is the third player from Calvin to receive the honor and the second from his family as his older brother David Holwerda was selected for the award in 2006.
Brad Heethuis Named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week in Men’s Soccer

For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin College junior striker Brad Heethuis has been named the MIAA’s Offensive Player of the Week. A native of Jenison and a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian high School, Heethuis scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Hope on Saturday that clinched the outright MIAA title for the Knights.
The goal, scored just 6:04 into the match, was the fourth of the year for Heethuis who now has three game-winning goals to his credit this fall. Heethuis currently ranks third on the Calvin team in scoring with 13 points on the strength of four goals and five assists.
Women’s Soccer to Host Four-Team Regional/Men’s Soccer Headed To Wheaton Regional

The Calvin women’s soccer team has been selected to host a four-team NCAA regional this Friday and Saturday that will include Washington and Jefferson (PA), Ohio Northern and Wittenberg. Ohio Northern (15-4-1) will face Wittenberg (11-4-5) at 11:00 a.m. in the opening first round game with Calvin (13-4-1) slated to face Washington and Jefferson, PA (12-6-2) at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices are: $6.00 for general admission, $3.00 for students, senior citizens and members of the military and $2.00 for children ages 3-12. Meanwhile, the Calvin men’s soccer team will travel to Wheaton College (IL) for a four-team Friday/Saturday regional. Calvin (15-4-1) will face host Wheaton (14-3-3) in a Friday first round game with the University of Chicago (12-3-3) facing Wartburg (15-4-1) in the other first round game on Friday.
