Men’s Soccer Rolls To Win Over St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, NY - Calvin picked up its first victory of the year with a 5-0 victory over St. John Fisher Saturday afternoon at the Flower City Classic hosted by the University of Rochester. Calvin blew the game open with four second half goals with sophomore Zach Willis (Grandville/Unity Christian HS) netting a pair. Senior Tyler Vegter (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) put Calvin on the board with a goal in the 28th minute of play, converting a feed from senior Willis on a two-on-one breakaway. Five minutes into the second half, junior Chris Nance (Washington, MI/Warred DeLaSalle HS) converted a penalty kick and the rout was on.
Calvin is back in action next Friday as it travels to Aurora University for a 5:30 p.m. (EST) contest in suburban Chicago.

Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener 3-1 to University of Rochester at Flower City Classic

ROCHESTER, NY - The Calvin men’s soccer team opened its season with a tough 3-1 loss at the University of Rochester Thursday night in a first round game of Rochester’s Flower City Classic. Calvin outshot the host Yellow Jackets 15-10 but gave up two second half goals to drop its season opener. Senior Mile Colago scored just four minutes into the match, heading in a pass from junior Kyle Vela but Rochester came back to tie the game 1-1 just four minutes later. Rochester then scored twice in the second half including the go-ahead goal on a long throw-in into the box. Calvin will now prepare to face St. John Fisher on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Calvin College Athletics Program to Join Nation-wide Division III Partnership With Special Olympics

As part of the Division III National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Calvin athletics recently joined a Division III partnership with the United States’ Special Olympic Committee, adding a valuable opportunity to the athletic department’s already service-driven outlook. The SAAC is an NCAA organization tiered at the national, conference, and school level.  The national, and governing, branch of the organization, seeks to “to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image,” according to the organization’s website.
