GRAND RAPIDS—Calvin preserved its undefeated conference record with a convincing 4-1 win over Olivet on Tuesday, extending the Knights’ win streak to 12 games while completing their season sweep of the fifth-place Comets.

GRAND RAPIDS—For the third time in his career, Calvin College junior Greg Snapper has been named the MIAA’s Defensive Player of the Week. Snapper previously was so honored in both 2006 and 2007.
Snapper shares the award this week with Albion defender Kurt Dossen.

ALBION—The Calvin men’s soccer team stretched its win streak to nine games and remained on top of the MIAA standings with a 2-0 victory at Albion Saturday afternoon. The Knights are now 11-3-0 overall and 8-0 in the MIAA, three points ahead of second place Hope (7-1-0 MIAA).

ANGOLA, IN – A save by Calvin College senior Darrin Cline helped the Knights stop Trine – all coming in just the nick of time.
Cline’s stop of a Trine penalty kick with 3:26 left in regulation enabled Calvin to hold on to a 1-0 lead and moments later the win.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Knights’ unblemished conference record was jeopardized for merely 19 seconds on Saturday afternoon.
In what turned out to be a pivotal 21st minute, Calvin sophomore Scott Hooker (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) responded moments later to an Adrian goal – compliments of Eric Drake – that initially stunned the first-place Knights.
Hooker’s strike put Calvin back on track, as coach Chris Hughes’ squad controlled momentum and used a second-half goal from senior Michael Holwerda (Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Christian HS) to overcome the cellar-dwelling Bulldogs, 2-1.

A recipe for combustion, the league’s top offense collided with the league’s top defense in Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
It wasn’t a shootout, nor was it a stalemate.
Instead, a resilient Calvin defense staved off No. 17 Hope and its lineup of high-octane scorers, using junior Alex McKenzie’s goal in the 14th minute to nab sole possession of first-place in the MIAA with a 1-0 win.
