Men’s Soccer Receives NSCAA College Team Academic Award

The Calvin College men’s soccer team excelled on the field this fall, advancing all the way to the NCAA III Championship finals. Under the direction of head coach Chris Hughes, the Knights have also excelled in the classroom too.
The Calvin men’s soccer team was recently selected as a recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Award. To receive the honor, a team needed to post a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or above.
The Calvin men’s soccer team posted a 3.19 grade point average for the 2008-09 academic year. This marks the first time the Knights have received the NSCAA College Team Academic Award.
Dan Kmetz Named Third Team All-American By National Soccer Coaches Association of America

Calvin College junior midfielder Dan Kmetz has been named a Performance Subaru third team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The award was announced late Friday evening.
A native of Strongsville, Ohio, Kmetz is the first All-American in men’s soccer at Calvin since Kurt Visker was so honored in 2005. A graduate of Strongsville High School, Kmetz is the fifth individual in Calvin men’s soccer history to earn All-America honors, joining Casey TerHaar (1962), Doug DeSmit (1983), Joey Barone (1991) and Visker (2004 & 2005) to have been so honored.
