Women’s Tennis Claims 6-3 Win Over Alma at Strikwerda Tennis Courts

Calvin evened its MIAA record to 1-1 with a 6-3 victory over visiting Alma Monday afternoon at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts. Calvin (3-9 overall) took two of the three doubles points to gain early control.Claiming doubles victories for the Knights were junior Elise Doezema and sophomore Bethany Zoerhof at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Lauren Schlagenhauf and junior Jordan Ipema at No. 3 doubles. Freshman Megan Visser then claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, Ipema was a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 3 singles, Doezema a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 5 singles and freshman Ali Roode a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles. Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Albion at 4 p.m. at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts.
Women’s Tennis Edged at Kalamazoo by 5-4 Decision

KALAMAZOO - The Calvin women’s tennis team suffered a hard-fought 5-4 decision at Kalamazoo Saturday afternoon. Kalamazoo took two of the three doubles points and then held on to split the six singles flights to edge the Knights who fall to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA. Calvin’s lone doubles point came from Lauren Schlagenhauf and Jordan Ipema at No. 3 doubles with the Knights winning 8-5. In singles play, Samantha Reitsema was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 4 singles, Elise Doezema a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 5 singles and Ali Roode a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 6 singles. Calvin is back in action next Tuesday when it hosts Alma at 4 p.m.
Women’s Tennis Defeated by George Fox 7-2 in Spring Break Finale

ORLANDO, FL - Calvin closed out its spring trip to Orlando with a 7-2 loss to George Fox on Friday morning. Calvin’s only two points came in singles play with sophomore Bethany Zoerhof (Holland/Holland Christian HS) winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and freshman Ali Roode (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Calvin is back in action on March 31 when it travels to Kalamazoo for a conference match at 1 p.m.
