Women’s Tennis Clipped at Grand Valley State 9-0

ALLENDALE - The Calvin women’s tennis team suffered a 9-0 decision at Grand Valley State Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers entered the match ranked 23rd in the most recent ITA Division II Top 25 poll.
Calvin drops to 4-11 overall with the loss. the Knights return to action next Monday for a conference match at Saint Mary’s at 4 p.m.

Women’s Tennis Goes Indoors To Defeat Olivet 8-1

Calvin got back on the winning track with an 8-1 victory over Olivet Tuesday afternoon inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center. The Knights are now 4-10 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA. The Knights are currently tied for fifth place in the MIAA standings with Adrian and Saint Mary’s. Calvin got off to a quick start by sweeping the three doubles flights. Freshmen Megan Visser (Kalamazoo Christian HS) and Samantha Reitsma (Northpointe Christian HS) were 8-3 winners at No. 1 doubles while junoir Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and sophomore Bethany Zoerhof (Holland Christian HS) 8-2 winners at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Lauren Schlagenhauf (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran HS) and junior Jordan Ipema (Kalamazoo Christian HS) claimed an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.Calvin then clipped off five singles wins with Visser winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Ipema winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, Reitsma winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, Doezema winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and freshman Ali Roode (Unity Christian HS) winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Grand Valley State University for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m.

Women’s Tennis Edged by Albion 5-4 in Epic Five-Hour Dual Match

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Calvin College women’s tennis team dueled the Britons from Albion College long past sunset.  The match was tied at 4-4 with only one flight, fourth singles, still on the court.  With freshmen Samantha Reitsma holding a 3-2 advantage in the third set, the match was moved to nearby athletic club MVP.  It was Sarah Towler that prevailed in the marathon match of over four hours winning the third set tiebreak 10-8.The loss drops Calvin to 3-10 (1-2 MIAA) on the year.  The Knights return to action when they take on the Comets of Olivet College April 10 at Strikweda Tennis Center.
