CHICAGO, IL—The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team closed out an impressive two days of competition at the University of Chicago Invitational, winning the meet with a team score of 1,251.83 points.

CHICAGO, IL—Calvin College senior Erica Deur added another chapter in her storied collegiate diving career on Friday night, shattering her own school record on the three-meter board with a score of 505.55 points at the University of Chicago invitational. A graduate of Holland Christian High School, Deur eclipsed her previous school record of 485.20 points in the event. Her point total on Friday night was also a University of Chicago pool record.
Calvin Swimming and Diving Teams Hold First Practices Inside Venema Aquatic Center

The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were able to hold their first-ever practices inside the Venema Aquatic Center Wednesday afternoon. The Knights are scheduled to host their first-ever dual meets inside the facility on January 24 when they host the Hope men’s and women’s swimmig and diving teams in MIAA dual meets.
Keys to Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex Given to Calvin College

The keys to the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex were given to Calvin College Friday afternoon. Calvin president Dr. Gaylen Byker was there to accept the keys from Christman Construction Company Senior Vice President Jim Cash. Members of the media and groups of individuals from the Calvin community were in attendance for the event. In addition, the men’s and women’s basketball teams had their first practices inside the VanNoord Arena on Friday.

Deur Posts NCAA III Conditional Qualifying Marks at Grand Valley State Diving Invitational

ALLENDALE—Calvin’s contingent of divers had a strong outing on Saturday at the Grand Valley State Diving Invitational. In the women’s competition, senior Erica Deur (Holland/Holland Christian HS) won both the one and three-meter boards with NCAA III conditional qualifying marks. Deur won the one-meter board with a score of 443.7 points and the three-meter board with a score of 472.25 points.
Swim Teams Post Top 10 Finishes at EMU Invitational

YPSILANTI—Despite competing in only the second day of competition at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, the Calvin men’s and women’s swim teams posted top 10 finishes on Saturday with the Calvin women finishing sixth with 135.5 points while the Calvin men took fifth with 152 points.

DETROIT—The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams dropped dual meets in a triangular hosted by Wayne State on Saturday. In the men’s competition, Calvin was defeated by Wayne State 173-58 and by Denison 203-35. In the women’s competition, Calvin was defeated by Wayne State 170-71 and by Denison 164-79.

OLIVET—The Calvin men’s swimming and diving team dropped a 127-85 dual meet at Olivet while the Calvin women’s team defeated the host Comets in dual meet action 118-111.

WHEATON, IL – The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams split dual meets at Wheaton on Saturday with the women’s team edging Wheaton 122-115 while the Calvin men’s team fell to Wheaton 119-102.
The Calvin women’s swim team is now 3-1 in dual meet competition this year while the Calvin men’s team is 1-2.

Dan Gelderloos Preseason interview
The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team will head into the 2008-09 season as the four-time defending MIAA champions. Whether or not the Knights can make it five in a row remains to be seen but the Knights do return several letterwinners on which to build their championship hopes.
