For the 15th consecutive year, Calvin has posted a top 25 finish in the final NCAA III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, finishing 14th in the nation in Division III in 2009-10 with a total of 634 points.
Calvin’s point total is its second-highest ever in the 15 years of the competition.
Calvin continues to be one of only seven schools in the country to finish in the top 25 every year that the competition has been held at the NCAA III level.
Joining Calvin in that elite group are Williams, Mass., Amherst, Mass., Middlebury, Vt., Wisconsin-LaCrosse, the State University of New York at Cortland and Emory, Ga.
Williams College, Mass., defended its title as the best athletics program in the nation in Division III by winning its 14th U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup with 1,292.25 points.

Calvin College juniors Melissa Oosterhouse and Monica Bressler have been named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans in the women’s college at-large division as selected by the College Sports Information Director’s Association of America. Oosterhouse has been named to the first team while Bressler has been named to the third team. The Women’s At-Large program for Academic All-America® includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, tennis and water polo. Calvin has now had its athletes receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America accolades 85 times including 54 times in the last 12 years.

GRAND RAPIDS - Two Calvin student-athletes have received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in the women’s at-large college division. Juniors Melissa Oosterhouse and Monica Bressler have been named to the all-district first team. As members of the first team, Oosterhouse and Bressler now advance to the national ballot and are eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America ® consideration.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN—The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team added two more honorable mention All-America berths Saturday night at the NCAA III Championships to finish in 24th place with 43 points. Both honorable mention All-America selections came in the 200 breaststroke with freshman Elizabeth Counsell (Indianapolis, IN) taking 11th in the consolation finals with a career-best time of 2:20.83 while senior Maggie Vail (Portage Northern HS) was 15th in a time of 2:23.33. On the men’s side Saturday, freshman Mark Rushlow (Goshen, IN) competed in the 100 freestyle prelims but did not advance. Rushlow recorded a time of 47.18 that was good for 42nd place. During the meet, Rushlow competed in the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN—For the third time in her career, Calvin College senior Emily Roberts has gained NCAA III All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke. A native of DeKalb, Illinois, Roberts took eighth in the event Friday night at the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships with a time of 1:05.28. Roberts has competed in the event four consecutive years at the national meet, placing third in 2007, 11th in 2008 and seventh in 2009. Top eight finishers are All-Americans while those finishing in spots nine-through-16 are honorable mention All-Americans.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - For the second consecutive year, Calvin College senior Casey Herman is an NCAA III All-American on the one-meter diving board. A native of Libertyville, Illinois, Herman placed seventh on the one-meter board Thursday night at the NCAA III Championships with a score of 396.15 points. A year ago, Herman placed eighth on the one-meter board to earn All-America accolades. Herman joins Sari Brummel (Class of 1987) and Erica Deur (Class of 2009) as the only multiple All-America divers in Calvin women’s swimming and diving history.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team broke into the scoring column on day one of the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota with a 12th place finish in the 200 medley relay. The 12th place finish by the Calvin quartet of freshman Kristen Kinzer (Fort Wayne, IN), senior Emily Roberts (DeKalb, IL), junior Caitlin Alexander (Holland Christian HS) and junior Monica Bressler (Sandusky, OH) in a time of 1:46.92 was good for 10 points and put the Knights in 20th place with three days of competition left.

The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will send a combined total of nine individuals to the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships March 17-20. The national meet will be hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team will be sending eight individuals to the upcoming NCAA III Championships March 17-20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Meanwhile, the Calvin men’s team will send one individual as freshman Mark Rushlow made the national field announced earlier this morning by the national committee.

The All-MIAA men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have been announced and six members of the Calvin women’s team have been so honored while one member of the Calvin men’s team has been selected.
Calvin athletes that have been selected to the All-MIAA women’s swimming and diving team include seniors Emily Roberts, Maggie Vail and Casey Herman, junior Monica Bressler and freshmen Rachel Bos and Elizabeth Counsell.
