Cross Country Teams Prepare for NCAA III Championships

The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams are headed back to the NCAA III Championships. The Calvin men’s team will be making its 26th appearance at the NCAA III Championships which ranks fourth on the all-time NCAA III men’s cross country list. Under current head coach Brian Diemer, the men’s cross country team has posted 18 top-four national team finishes including national championship performances in 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2006. On the women’s side, Calvin will be making its 21st appearance at the NCAA III Championships which ranks third on the all-time NCAA III women’s cross country list. The Calvin women’s cross country program has posted 15 top-10 national team finishes including four straight under current head coach Brian Diemer.

Calvin Fall Sports Teams Establish New School Record

When the Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams punched their tickets to the NCAA III Championships this past weekend at the Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday, a new Calvin fall sports record was established. The men’s and women’s cross country teams were the fifth and sixth Calvin fall sports teams to earn spots in their respective NCAA III Championships competition, breaking the previous school record of five.

Calvin Women’s Cross Country Team Capture Third Straight Great Lakes Regional Title

HOLLAND, MI - The Calvin women’s cross country team fought off a rugged group of teams to capture its third consecutive Great Lakes Regional title Saturday afternoon at the West Ottawa Golf Club. Ranked seventh nationally, Calvin finished with a first place team score of 69 points in the 6K race, outdistancing 10th-ranked Hope which took second with 103 points. Both teams qualify for next week’s NCAA III Championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Calvin junior Jodi Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL/Chicago Christian HS) led the Knights by placing fourth individually in a time of 21:48. She was one of three Calvin runners in the top 10 as sophomore Alyssa Penning (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was ninth (22:07) and senior Gretchen Braymer (Alymer, PA/Collegiate Academy) 10th (22:09).
