Calvin Men 8th/Calvin Women 9th at NCAA III Cross Country Championships

WAVERLY, IA - The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams claimed a pair of top 10 national finishes at the NCAA III Cross Country Championships on Saturday with the Calvin men finishing eighth with a team score of 277 points while the Calvin women finished ninth with 354 points. Junior Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN/Illiana Christian HS) led the Calvin men with a 16th place (24:41) individual finish to claim the first All-America berth of his Calvin cross country career. On the women’s side, Calvin just missed a pair of All-America (top 35) berths as junior Jodi Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL) was 43rd (21:56) and sophomore Alyssa Penning (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) 45th (21:56).

Kramer Repeats as Gt Lakes Athlete of The Year - Diemer Named Gt Lakes Regional Women’s Coach of Yr

For the second consecutive year, Calvin College junior Nick Kramer has been named the Great Lakes Regional Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. Kramer is receiving the award after racing to his second consecutive Great Lakes Regional individual title this past Saturday in Holland, Michigan. A native of Dyer, Indiana, and a graduate of Illiana Christian High School, Kramer helped the Calvin men’s cross country team capture its 15th consecutive Great Lakes Regional title as the Knights garnered a first place team score of 57 points. Two weeks prior, he helped Calvin capture its 24th consecutive MIAA title. In addition, Brian Diemer has been named the Great Lakes Regional Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Now in his fifth year as Calvin women’s cross country coach, Diemer is receiving the award for the third straight year. This fall, Diemer led the Calvin women’s cross country team to its sixth consecutive MIAA titles and its third straight Great Lakes Regional crown.
