Calvin Women’s Cross Country 1998 and 1999 National Champs to Reunite on Saturday

The Calvin women’s cross country national championship teams of 1998 and 1999 will reunite on Saturday as part of Calvin’s uKnight week activities. The Calvin teams will be honored at halftime of the varsity men’s basketball game against Alma College Saturday afternoon. Calvin’s 1998 team captured the national championship in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, recording a score of 124 points. The national title was the first in Calvin women’s athletics history. The following year, Calvin came back to repeat as national champion, recording a first place team score of 85 points at the national meet hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Calvin student video producer Mike Zaagman dug through the video archives recently and has produced a video looking back on Calvin’s back-to-back title teams.

As 2010 begins to wind down, take a moment to enjoy a four-minute highlight video put together earlier this fall by Calvin Media Relations Manager Matt Kucinski. The video captures action of Calvin athletics from the 2010 spring and fall sports seasons. Included in the highlights are clips from the 2010 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the 2010 MIAA women’s tennis tournament and several other events from the fall and spring.

Calvin 2nd in Latest Set of Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Standings

The latest set of Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup fall sports standings have been released and after an outstanding fall sports campaign, Calvin College stands in second place, just 19 points behind first place Washington University of St. Louis. Calvin has a second place total of 327 points, holding a two-point lead over third place Middlebury (VT). Washington University (MO) leads the list with 336 points.
