Women’s Golf Takes Third at MIAA Jamboree - Prepares for Upcoming MIAA Tournament

KALAMAZOO—Calvin continued to secure its top four finish in the MIAA regular season standings as the Knights took third at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo at the Milham Park Golf Club Saturday afternoon with a team score of 348 strokes. Calvin remains in fourth place in the MIAA overall standings but is now 60 strokes ahead of Adrian and Trine. The Knights are 23 strokes behind third place Saint Mary’s. Calvin placed three golfers in the top 10 on Saturday led by junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who tied for sixth with an 84. Sophomore Carlia Canto (Marysille/Port Huron Northern HS) and freshman Jackie Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) tied for eighth with rounds of 85. Junior Rachel Whitaker (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern HS) was next for Calvin with a 94 while freshman Lauren Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) had a 101.
Women’s Golf Captures Alma Invitational Title

ALMA - The Calvin women’s golf team captured the championship of the Alma Invitational Saturday afternoon. Competing in a field of seven teams, Calvin posted a team score of 351 strokes to finish three strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had another outstanding performance, finishing second individually with a round of 80. Sophomore teammate Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) had an 86 while junior Nicole Black (Grand Rapids/Kenowa Hills HS) had a 92. Rounding out Calvin’s finishers were freshmen Jackie and Laura Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) with Jackie Richert posting a round of 93 and Laura Richert a round of 97. Calvin returns to action next Thursday, competing in an MIAA Tournament hosted by Albion at the Medalist Golf Club at 1 p.m.

HOLLAND - The Calvin women’s golf team continues to remain in fourth place in the overall MIAA standings after finishing fourth at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Hope College Wednesday afternoon at the Ravines Golf Club. The Knights fired a team score of 354 to finish 19 strokes ahead of fifth place Adrian while finishing nine strokes behind third place Saint Mary’s. Olivet took first place on Wednesday at 323 with host Hope second at 340. Hope leads the overall standings at 665 with Olivet second at 668, Saint Mary’s third at 687 and Calvin fourth at 702. Trine is fifth at 737. The top four teams at the conclusion of the MIAA fall season will be eligible to compete for the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships next spring when the MIAA Tournament is held.In Wednesday’s competition, sophomore Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) tied for fourth place individually with a round of 84. Junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was close behind with an 86 that was good for a tie for sixth place.
