Women’s Golf In Fourth Place Through Day One of MIAA Tournament

BATTLE CREEK - Calvin opened play at the two-day MIAA Tournament with a team score of 353 strokes which is good for fourth place through one day of competition. The MIAA Tournament is being held at a neutral site course - the Bedford Valley Country Club. The Knights also remain in fourth place in the overall team standings. Sophomore Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) led the way for Calvin with an 81, good for a tie for fifth place individually while junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had an 84 to finish ninth. Rounding out Calvin’s finishers were freshman Jackie Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) with a 91, freshman Laura Richert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) with a 97 and junior Rachel Whitaker (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern HS) with a 104. Canto is now eighth in the seasonal MIAA indvidual standings while Doezema is 11th. Action picks up again on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Calvin to Host MIAA Women’s Golf Tournament at Bedford Valley Country Club

Calvin will serve as host of the two-day MIAA Women’s Golf Tournament this Friday and Saturday at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. The tournament will include an 18-hole round on Friday and an 18-hole round on Saturday. Friday’s action will begin at 1 p.m. with Saturday’s round set for 9 a.m. The two weekend rounds will count on the cumulative stroke total in the overall MIAA standings both individually and as a team. Hope enters the weekend with a 15-stroke lead over Olivet in the overall team standings while defending MIAA champion Saint Mary’s is third and Calvin fourth. The top four teams in the final MIAA regular season standings will be eligible to compete for the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament next spring.

BATTLE CREEK – Calvin began the first of three days of competition at the Bedford Valley Country Club Thursday afternoon, finishing fourth at the final MIAA Jamboree of the year with a team score of 352 strokes. The Knights remain in fourth place in the overall MIAA standings heading into the 36-hole MIAA Tournament scheduled for this weekend at Bedford Valley. The Knights are 68 strokes ahead of Adrian for fourth place and trail Saint Mary’s by 29 strokes for third place. Hope continues to lead the overall standings, 15 strokes ahead of Olivet. On Thursday, Hope and Olivet tied for first place with scores of 322 strokes. Saint Mary’s was third with a team score of 344.
