Women’s Golf Ties For Third Place at Hope Invitational

HOLLAND, Mich – The Calvin women’s golf team tied for third place at the Hope Invitational Thursday afternoon at the Ravines Golf Club with a team score of 356 strokes. Calvin tied host Hope for third place with Olivet winning with a score of 332 while Aquinas was second (352).  Rochester College placed fifth with a score of 410 strokes. Calvin’s top individual was sophomore Carlia Canto with a round of 82 while junior Elise Doezema had an 89 and junior Rachel Whitaker a 92. Freshman Jaclyn Richert had a 93 and freshman Laura Richert a 101. Calvin is back in action on April 17 when it competes at the first 18-hole MIAA Tournament round. Hope College will serve as host that afternoon.

Women’s Golf Defeats Nebraska Wesleyan in Florida Dual Match

LAKE WALES, FL - The women’s golf team opened up its spring schedule on Friday with a dual match against Nebraska Wesleyan. Calvin posted a team score of 367 with Nebraska Wesleyan coming in at 404. The competition was held at the Lekarica Golf Course. Sophomore Carlia Canto (Marysville/Port Huron Northern HS) led Calvin with an 87 followed by freshman Jackie Reichert (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern HS) with a 90. Junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next with a 92 while junior Rachel Whitaker (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern HS) had a 98.

Women’s Golf Takes Fourth at MIAA Tournament - Places Fourth in Final MIAA Standings

BATTLE CREEK - The Calvin women’s golf team closed out its 2011 MIAA regular season with an eye looking forward to the 2012 MIAA Spring Tournament. Calvin clinched one of the four qualifying spots for next springs NCAA III qualifying tournament by finishing fourth in the final MIAA regular season standings on Saturday. Calvin completed the two-day MIAA Tournament with a fourth place score of 701 strokes. The two-day total placed Calvin in fourth place in the final league standings. The top four teams in the final MIAA regular season standings qualify for the spring tournament. Calvin will be making its first appearance as an NCAA-eligible qualifying team at the MIAA Tournament next spring. Calvin finished with a season scoring average of 350.3 strokes-per-round, an improvement of more than 33 strokes from a year ago. The scoring average is a new Calvin single-season (team) record. The Knights also jumped up three places in the MIAA standings from their seventh place finish of 2010.
