Calvin Track & Field Teams Emerge Victorious at First-Ever Calvin (Indoor) Invitational

Both the men’s and women’s track and field teams emerged victorious in their third meet of the young season. Their victories came at their own Calvin Invitational.The meet, which consisted of local rivals Hope, Alma, and Aquinas, was held in the Huizenga Track and Tennis Center on the Sturrus Track. It marked the first time Calvin has hosted an indoor event and the first time since 2007 that Calvin has hosted any sort of track and field meet.
The men prevailed with a score of 183. Hope followed with 143 points and Aquinas and Alma rounded out the meet with scores of 114 and 82.5, respectively.As a team, the Calvin women squeaked out a victory with 155 points, a half-point ahead of Hope which garnered 154.5 points. Aquinas scored 126.5 and Alma scored 87 points. Calvin’s 4x400 relay team propelled the Knights to their late lead with a first place finish of 4:07. The relay consisted of freshman Julie Busscher, Olivia Butler, junior Jordan Gabrielse, and Rachel Boerner.

Bret Otte Talks Indoor Track & Field as Knights Prepare to Host Calvin Invitational

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams will host the first indoor competition inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center on the Sturrus Track this Friday. Action is slated to begin at 3 p.m. In addition to Calvin, competing teams will include Aquinas, Alma and Hope. The meet will be a scored competition. The meet is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Calvin head men’s and women’s track and field coach Bret Otte sat down recently to discuss the upcoming Calvin Indoor Track and Field Invitational as well as the current indoor season. The men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed at the unscored Mike Lints Open hosted by Grand Valley State University Friday night. Click the headline above for meet highlights. Both teams will now prepare to host the first-ever Calvin Indoor Track and Field Invitational next Friday at the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center on the Sturrus Track. The four competing teams at the invitational will Alma, Aquinas, Calvin and Hope. Action is slated to start at 3 p.m.
