LISLE, IL—The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams competed on Friday evening at the Benedictine Twilight Invitational. Full results were not available Friday night but early reports had several Calvin athletes producing strong results despite strong winds and subsequent thunderstorms that halted the meet two events shy of completion.

A highlight for the Calvin women’s team came from junior Rebekah VanDyk (Bellflower, CA/Valley Christian HS) who recorded an NCAA III provisional qualifying jump of 5-6 in the high jump. USTFCCCA Division III Top 25 Rankings

The Calvin women’s track and field team has risen to the number-one spot in the most recent Division III National Rankings released this morning by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Calvin holds the top spot with 152.42 points with Illinois Wesleyan second with 144.10 points and Wisconsin-Oshkosh third with 125.15 points.

The rankings are achieved through a mathematical formulae based on current national descending order lists.  The rankings should not be confused as a “form chart” or a hard-line predictor of NCAA Championship team finishes, but as an indicator of those who have the best chances and deepest rosters to compete as the nation’s best.

Rachel Boerner Heating Up Track For Calvin Knights

Monday, March 22, 2010

By Calvin Sports Information Student Assistant Derek Neice

Calvin’s track and field success over the years has been one of the most consistent of all the sports offered here.  Last Saturday the Knights added another chapter to that rich history as junior Rachel Boerner won the 400 meters with a time of 55.95.  Boerner has already proven herself a veteran runner on this deep track team for the Knights, but this accomplishment certainly tops the list of her many accolades.

A native of Bergenfield New Jersey, Boerner would eventually graduate high school from the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Minnesota.  Her brother-in-law, a Calvin alumnus, encouraged her to consider coming to Grand Rapids for her undergraduate studies, and now she has won a national title as a Calvin runner.
