USTFCCA Women's Track and Field All-Academic List
NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the men’s 2010 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team. A total of 330 student-athletes representing 99 institutions compose the group. Calvin was second among all squads with 10 individuals so honored with Wartburg first with 12. Individuals from the Calvin women’s track and field team that received USTFCCA All-Academic status include Rachel Boerner, Gretchen Braymer, Sarah Dugan, Nicole Farr, Jordan Gabrielse, Jessica Koster, Joy Leach, Alyssa Penning, Mary Tolsma and Rebekah VanDyk.

Calvin's MIAA Academic Honor Roll Recipients
The 2009-10 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Academic Honor Roll has been announced by Commissioner David Neilson and 143 Calvin scholar-athletes have been named to the list.
The honor roll recognizes scholar-athletes who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire 2009-10 academic year. A student needed to have won a varsity letter in a sport to be eligible. The MIAA Academic Honor Roll program was initiated in 1990 to recognize students at MIAA member colleges who excel both in athletics and in the classroom. This year’s Honor Roll includes several students who achieved the distinction four consecutive years. Of the students, 19 are from Calvin.

History of Calvin's MIAA Team GPA Award Recipients
For the second consecutive year, 10 Calvin College athletics teams have received the MIAA Team GPA Award for the recently completed 2009-10 academic year – matching a Calvin record. The award, presented by the Faculty Athletic Representatives of the MIAA member colleges recognizes conference athletic teams who achieved a 3.3 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire 2009-10 academic year. A year ago, Calvin established a school record as 10 of its 17 varsity teams eligible for the honor achieved a 3.3 or better grade point average.

2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Teams
For the second consecutive year, Calvin College senior Jessica Koster has been named a first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American.
Koster is receiving ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America accolades once again in the women’s college track and field/cross country college division. A cross country and track and field standout, Koster has earned All-America accolades three times in her Calvin running career - twice in track and field and once in cross country. This past fall, she pciked up an All-America berth in cross country by placing 34th at the NCAA III Cross Country Championships. Last month, she claimed All-America honors for the second straight year in the 10,000 meters, placing sixth in the event at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At the 2009 national meet, she placed fifth in the 10,000 meters.

Final NCAA III Learfield Director's Cup Standings 2009-10
For the 15th consecutive year, Calvin has posted a top 25 finish in the final NCAA III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, finishing 14th in the nation in Division III in 2009-10 with a total of 634 points.
Calvin’s point total is its second-highest ever in the 15 years of the competition.
Calvin continues to be one of only seven schools in the country to finish in the top 25 every year that the competition has been held at the NCAA III level.
Joining Calvin in that elite group are Williams, Mass., Amherst, Mass., Middlebury, Vt., Wisconsin-LaCrosse, the State University of New York at Cortland and Emory, Ga.
Williams College, Mass., defended its title as the best athletics program in the nation in Division III by winning its 14th U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup with 1,292.25 points.

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams
Two members of the Calvin women’s track and field program have received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors. Senior Jessica Koster has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District first team in the women’s college track and field field/cross country division while junior Rachel Boerner has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team. 
As a member of the first team, Koster advances to the national ballot and is now eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America consideration. The college division of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program includes NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA schools. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Director’s Association of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for nomination, an individual must be a starter or a key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30.

Deb Vercauteren Program of the Year Award Team Standings
Calvin College has finished in third place in the second annual Deb Vercauteren Program of the Year Award standings as announced by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. A year ago, Calvin finished fifth in the inaugural year of the award.
In what was an extremely close finish between UW Oshkosh, MIT, and Calvin, the Titans pulled out the Program of the Year victory via their second-place team finish at last weekend’s NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In the meet, UW Oshkosh with 53 held off MIT’s third-place showing (37) and Calvin’s fifth-place finish (35). In the final Program of the Year standings, UW Oshkosh ended with 17 points (13 cross country, 2 indoor track & field, 2 outdoor track & field), MIT had 18 points (5 XC, 10 ITF, 3 OTF) and Calvin notched 19 points (3 XC, 11 ITF, 5 OTF). Last year’s Program of the Year winner, Wartburg – who won the NCAA indoor track & field team title in 2010 – was fourth with 21 points .
Rachel Boerner Is Double National Titlist At NCAA III Track and Field Championships

BEREA, OH—Calvin College junior Rachel Boerner became the first athlete in MIAA track and field history to capture two individual national titles on the same day, winning the 400 meter dash and the 400 meter hurdles Saturday afternoon at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College.
Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ/Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) cruised to victories in both events, winning the 400 meters in a time of 54.50 and the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 59.80. Boerner’s double national title effort helped the Calvin women’s track and field team finish fifth in the final team standings with 35 points, just one point out of fourth and two points out of third place.

BEREA, OH—Calvin College senior Jessica Koster capped off her standout distance running career at Calvin with an All-America finish in the 10,000 meters Thursday night at Baldwin-Wallace College, placing sixth with a time of 36:28.33. The All-America berth is the second of Koster’s track and field career and the third of her distance racing career at Calvin. Koster was fifth in the 10,000 meters at the 2009 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She also owns an All-America berth in cross country, placing 34th at the 2009 NCAA III Cross Country Championships, ironically hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College this past November.
