Knight’s Volleyball Team Helps Out Community in St. Louis - Attends Championships Banquet

ST. LOUIS, MO - The Calvin College women’s volleyball team has succeeded on the court this season. They won a share of the MIAA conference championship for the first time since 2008. They have reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1992 with a stunning upset victory over 2nd ranked Wittenberg University at Wittenberg’s Pam Evan’s Smith Arena last week Saturday. The Knight’s have not only succeeded on the court this year. On Thursday afternoon, Calvin went to a crisis care nursery center in St. Louis to spend time with the kids there. The event was set up by the NCAA as part of its community service outreach program at NCAA Championship events. Later Thursday night, the team attended a championships banquet in downtown St. Louis where senior Kim Wigboldy and junior Erin Vander Plas gave a speech on behalf of the team.
Rebecca Kamp Named First Team AVCA D3 All-American - Megan Rietema Named National Freshman of Year

For the third consecutive year, Calvin College junior Rebecca Kamp has been named a first team Division III All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. A native of Orland Park, Illinois, and a graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp is the first three-time AVCA All-American in Calvin history.
In addition, Calvin freshman setter Megan Rietema has been named the AVCA’s Division III National Freshman of the Year, becoming the second individual in Calvin history to receive the honor. Rebecca Kamp also received the award in 2008.
Joining Rietema on the AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America list is sophomore outside hitter Lizzie Kamp. She is receiving AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second straight year.
Volleyball Team Headed to St. Louis For Elite Eight Round of NCAA III Tournament

The Calvin women’s volleyball team will open play in the Elite Eight Round of the NCAA III Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri, on Friday when it faces the University of Massachusetts Boston at 4 p.m. (EST). Calvin will be joined at the national finals by New York University, Emory University, St. Thomas, Juniata College, Christopher Newport University and host Washington University. All of the pairings and matchups can be found on the Washington University website at: Washington University Tournament Site. A championships banquet will also be held on Thursday night at the St. Louis Ballpark Hilton. Tickets for the banquet are available to the public but must be purchase by 1 p.m. (EST) Wednesday (November 17).
