The Calvin women’s volleyball team continues to hold the top spot in the AVCA Division III Top 25 poll. The Knights once again received all 48 first place votes in this week’s poll. Rival Hope remains the number-two ranked team in the country. Calvin and Hope will co-host the Midwest Challenge this weekend with four nationally-ranked teams set to face Calvin over the course of the weekend. On Friday, Calvin will face eighth-ranked Mount Union at 4 p.m. and then meet 13th-ranked Wittenberg at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Calvin will face sixth-ranked Elmhurst at 11 a.m. and then meet 15th-ranked Chicago at 3 p.m. All four matches will be played at Van Noord Arena. ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin setter Megan Rietema its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through October 6. Rietema, a senior from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), dished out 111 assists (11.1 per set) and added 26 digs and 17 kills for the week as the Knights remained unbeaten with three straight victories. She had 10 kills, 42 assists, nine digs and three blocks in a four-set win over Albion, and had 36 assists and eight digs in a sweep of Kalamazoo. Rietema is being honored for the third time this season and 11th time in her career. Calvin will travel to Olivet on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. match and will then host the Midwest Challenge on Friday and Saturday which will feature several nationally-ranked teams.

GRAND RAPIDS – The number one ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team took a three set win against the Scots of Alma with scores of 25-10, 25-18, 25-14.
The Knights improved to 18-0 overall and 10-0 in the MIAA with their win Saturday against Alma (4-6 MIAA 9-10 overall) . The win keeps a 48 match win streak alive for the Knights team in conference play. As a team the Knights hit a blazing .370 hitting percentage with 56 digs and four total blocks. Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, IL; Chicago Christian HS) led the team with 12 kills and tacked on two blocks and eight digs. Emily Crowe (Granger, IN; Mishawaka Penn HS) was close behind with 11 kills and a .714 hitting percentage. Ellie Diepersloot (Madera, CA/Chowchilla HS) added 9 kills a long with Freshman Laura Danhoff (Willard, OH; Willard HS) who contributed 7 kills and 2 blocks. Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids, MI; Grand Rapids Christian HS) led all players with 33 assists and also brought 3 kills and 9 digs to the table. Senior libero Kristen Zietse lead all players with 20 digs and Junior Elise Biesboer (Elmhust, IL; Timothy Christian HS) had eight. The Knights return to action on Wednesday October 9th at Olivet. That match will begin at 6:30 p.m.

ALBION - The top-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team received a Friday night scare at Albion before prevailing 25-9, 25-13, 22-25, 26-24. The Knights improve to 17-0 overall and to 9-0 in the MIAA. Calvin has now won 47 consecutive MIAA matches. Friday marked Calvin’s first lost set against an MIAA opponent since the MIAA Tournament finals last fall when the Knights outlasted Hope in five sets. Maggie Kamp led Calvin in the kill department with 18 - eight of which came in the clinching fourth set. Senior setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) just missed a triple-double with 42 assists, 10 kills and nine digs. Diepersloot was again a threat on the outside, recording 12 kills and a hiting percentage of .429. Freshman Laura Danhoff (Willard, OH/Willard HS) chipped in with seven kills. Senior libero Kristen Zietse (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) tallied 24 digs. Danhoff, Zietse and junior Elise Biesboer (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) tallied two service aces apiece. Calvin returns home to face Alma on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.

KALAMAZOO – The top-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team improved to 16-0 overall and to 8-0 in the MIAA with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 win at Kalamazoo Tuesday night. Maggie Kamp led Calvin offensively with 17 kills and eight digs while junior Ellie Diepersloot (Madera, CA/Chowchilla HS) had 10 kills and a match-high hitting percentage of .692. Senior Kristen Zietse (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had 17 digs while freshman Laura Danhoff (Willard, OH/Willard HS) had six kills and a pair of service aces. Senior setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was once again the fulcrum of the Calvin offense with 36 assists to go with eight digs.Calvin will now prepare to travel to Albion on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. match.

The Bulldogs of Adrian visited Van Noord Arena for a conference volleyball contest Wednesday evening against the #1 ranked Knights. The two teams entered the game on opposite ends of the standings, with Calvin holding a 6-0 conference record at 14-0 overall while Adrian was 0-6 in the MIAA and 4-10 overall. Calvin recorded a 25-13, 25-11, 25-13 victory. Maggie Kamp led Calvin with 15 kills at a blistering clip of .444. Junior Emily Crowe added six while Danhoff, senior Megan Rietema, and junior Stacey Kamp all chipped in five. Rietema totaled 28 assists while senior Kristen Zietse had 16 digs. Danhoff ended the match with seven service aces.

NOTRE DAME, IN - The top-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team improved to 14-0 overall and to 6-0 in the MIAA with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-16 victory at Saint Mary’s College Saturday afternoon.
Calvin hit .330 as a team in the win led by sophomore Maggie Kamp who tallied 12 kills and a .321 attack percentage. Junior Emily Crowe and freshman Laura Danhoff had six kills apiece. Senior setter Megan Rietema had 29 assists and 12 digs. Crowe and junior Stacey Kamp had three block assists each. Senior Kristen Zietse had 16 digs while junior Elise Biesboer had three service aces. Calvin has now won 44 consecutive MIAA regular season matches and is now 53-1 over its last 54 MIAA matches. Calvin returns to action next Wednesday when it hosts Adrian at 6:30 p.m. inside Van Noord Arena.

Tuesday night saw the top two teams in Division III volleyball square-off in Van Noord Arena. Calvin entered the night with the #1 ranking and a 12-0 record, while the Flying Dutch of Hope were just recently ranked #2 as it also held a 12-0 record. The Knights, defending their top ranking, defeated Hope in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 28-26. Calvin has now won eight consecutive matches against Hope dating back to 2010. Calvin is now 13-0 and 5-0 in the MIAA while Hope moves to 12-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Knights now look forward to Saturday when they will travel to Saint Mary’s to play the Belles. Saturday’s contest is scheduled to start at noon.

Rietema, a senior from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), dished out 151 assists (10.1 per set), had a hitting percentage of .429 and added 37 digs for the week as Calvin remained unbeaten with five consecutive victories, including a 4-0 mark at a weekend tournament at Wittenberg, Ohio. She had seven kills, 20 assists and six digs in an MIAA win over Trine. In a tournament win over Otterbein, Ohio, she had 10 kills, 32 assists and nine digs. Rietema is being honored as Specialty Player of the Week for the second time this season and tenth time in her career. Calvin will host rival Hope Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.

SPRINGFIELD, OH - Calvin completed a perfect weekend at the Wittenberg Fall Classic with three set victories over Mount St. Joseph and Otterbein on Saturday. Ranked number-one in the country, Calvin is now 12-0 on the year and finished 4-0 at the weekend tournament. Calvin opened Saturday with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 win over Mount St. Joseph. The Knights hit .467 as a team led by junior Ellie Diepersloot who cranked out a blistering percentage of .875, registering seven kills on eight attack attempts. Sophomore Maggie Kamp had 11 kills and senior Megan Rietema 31 assists and nine digs. Senior Kristen Zietse added eight digs while junior Elise Biesboer had two service aces. On Saturday evening, Calvin recorded a 25-12, 25-19, 25-22 over eighth-ranked Otterbein. The win marked Calvin’s fifth victory up the year against a nationally-ranked opponent. Maggie Kamp had 11 kills, Rietema 10 kills, 32 assists and nine digs while Zietse had 13 digs.
