OLIVET - The ninth-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team remained on top of the MIAA standings with a 25-22, 25-11, 25-17 victory at Olivet Friday evening. The host Comets (6-4 overall, 3-2 MIAA) jumped out to a 19-16 lead in set one but the Knights rallied to score nine of the next 12 points to gain the set one win and take the momentum throughout the remainder of the match.
Junior Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) had a huge match with 17 kills, a hitting percentage of .600 and seven block assists. She was also credited with a pair of service aces and a pair of digs.

Calvin remained perfect in conference play, defeating Albion College in three sets (25-6, 25-13, 25-16) Tuesday night at Van Noord Arena. Junior Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL) led the Knights at the net with 13 kills in 20 attempts, and adding 6 block assists. With the win, the Knights improved their record to 5-0 in the MIAA standings and 10-2 overall. Calvin is ranked ninth in the most recent AVCA Division III Top 25 poll. Calvin returns to action on Friday when it travels to Olivet for a 6:30 p.m. conference match.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin middle hitter Rebecca Kamp its Player of the Week and Calvin setter Megan Rietema its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through September 19. Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had 88 kills for a .448 hitting percentage in five matches, three of them against nationally-ranked opponents. She is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and sixth time in her career. Rietema, a freshman from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), dished out 209 assists (11.0 per game) in five matches for the week, and added 32 digs and 12 blocks. Calvin returns to action this week when it hosts Albion Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena.

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Calvin posted a 2-2 weekend record at the Wittenberg University Border Battle. The fourth-ranked Knights opened play on Friday with back-to-back losses to nationally-ranked Heidelberg and Wittenberg but came back to defeat nationally-ranked Ohio Northern Saturday morning and also the College of Mount St. Joseph Saturday afternoon.
Junior Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS), sophomore Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) and freshman Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) were all named to the Michigan All-Tournament Team.

Fresh from knocking off rival Hope College in a four set match this past weekend, the now 4th ranked Knights of Calvin College continued on track Tuesday evening as they defeated the Saint Mary’s Belles in three straight sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-18).
After defeating the Dutchmen on Saturday, Calvin moved up four spots to its present #4 ranking in the national poll with Hope dropping to 6th. Tuesday’s three set sweep of the Belles maintained a spotless record thus far for the Knights’ 2010 campaign as Calvin improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

The Calvin women’s volleyball team has moved up four spot in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll. The Knights are ranked fourth in this week’s poll, up four spots from a week ago when the Knights were ranked eighth.
Calvin is currently 6-0 on the year and returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Mary’s in a 7 p.m. MIAA match. On Friday and Saturday, Calvin will compete at the Wittenberg Border Battle. At the tournament, Calvin will face fifth-ranked Wittenberg, 12th-ranked Ohio Northern, 19th-ranked Heidelberg and the College of Mount St. Joseph.

In another edition of one of the fiercest volleyball rivalries in Division III of the NCAA featuring two teams ranked in the top ten, the Knights of Calvin College (#8) faced off Saturday afternoon at home against the Flying Dutch of Hope College (#4). Both teams sitting on perfect 5-0 overall records, and also both 2-0 in league play thus far, expectations were high and the competitive play surely did not disappoint.
Calvin defeated the Flying Dutch 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, coming from behind to gain wins in two of the first three sets.

In their MIAA home opener, the eighth-ranked Calvin Knights served themselves a three-set victory over conference opponent Trine University on Friday night.
Strong serving and sound fundamental play led the Knights to a quick win. Ranked eighth nationally, Calvin will now prepare to host rival and fourth-ranked Hope on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena. Calvin is now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA.

ADRIAN - The nationally-ranked Calvin volleyball team opened up its 2010 MIAA campaign with a 25-19, 25-10, 25-12 victory at Adrian Tuesday night. Adrian (2-4 overall, 0-1 MIAA) gave Calvin a test early, leading 6-4 in set one and later trailing just 14-13. Calvin (4-0 overall, 1-0 MIAA) then caught fire and never looked back, scoring five unanswered points, en route to gaining a set one win.
In set two, Calvin scored 18 of the first 24 points and in set three, scored 12 of the first 16 to cruise to the three-set win.

Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had 32 kills for a hitting percentage of .545 in leading the Knights to three consecutive wins during the Midwest Challenge over the weekend.
