Rebecca Kamp/Kelly Gordon Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin middle hitter Rebecca Kamp its Player of the Week and Calvin defensive specialist Kelly Gordon its Specialty Player of the Week for matches played through November 5. Kamp, a senior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had 14 kills in 17 attempts for a hitting percentage of .765, a Van Noord Arena record, as the Knights swept Hope in the championship match of the MIAA tournament.
She finished with 22 kills and eight blocks for the tournament. Kamp is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and eighth time in her career. Gordon, a junior from Caledonia (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), played a key role on defense with 28 digs in two matches as Calvin won the MIAA tournament. She had 11 digs in a semifinal win over Trine, then had 17 digs in the championship match against Hope. Gordon is being honored as Specialty Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Calvin Volleyball Team To Host NCAA III Regional Tournament

The Calvin women’s volleyball team will host an eight-team NCAA III regional November 10-12 at Van Noord Arena. Joining Calvin at the regional will be Otterbein (Oh.), Hope (Mich.), St. Norbert (Wisc.), Heidelberg (Oh.), Geneva (Pa.), Rose-Hulman (Ind.) and Wittenberg (Oh). First round matchups on November 10 will feature Heidelberg (31-6) against Geneva (27-8), Wittenberg (31-3) against Rose-Hulman (24-8), Otterbein (25-5) against Hope (24-6) and Calvin (31-0) against St. Norbert (26-7). Calvin will be making its 21st appearance in the NCAA III Tournament. The Calvin Knights are 26-21 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play. The Knights are the defending national champions.
Rebecca Kamp Named MIAA’s Most Valuable Player - Five Named to All-MIAA Teams

For the third time in four years, Calvin College senior Rebecca Kamp has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player in volleyball. In addition, she has been named to the All-MIAA first team along with Calvin teammates Lizzie Kamp and Megan Rietema. Seniors Renee DeHaan and Erin VanderPlas have been named to the All-MIAA second team. A middle-hitter, Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) is the first three-time league-MVP in MIAA women’s volleyball history. She is also just the sixth individual in MIAA history to be named a four-time first team All-MIAA selection in volleyball, joining Leah Calsbeek (Calvin, 1983-86), Holly VandenBerg (Hope, 1983-86), Heather Velting (Hope, 1996-99), Lauree Dermyer (Adrian, 01-04) and Katie Zondervan (Calvin, 04-07).
