Calvin Defeats St. Norbert in First Round NCAA III Tourney Match - To Meet Hope in 2nd Round

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The top-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team picked up a 25-14, 25-19, 25-20 victory over St. Nobert College in a first round NCAA III Tournament match at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena. Calvin will face rival Hope in a second round match Friday night at 7 p.m. The meeting will be the fourth of the year between the two teams. Calvin (32-0) hit .429 in the opening set against St. Nobert but the Green Knights fought back behind a stubborn defensive effort. St. Norbert finished with 51 digs in the three-set match and limited Calvin to a .150 hitting percentage in set three. Calvin entered the match with the nation’s top hitting percentage at .325 and did hit .302 overall in the win. Erin VanderPlas led Calvin with a match-high 15 kills and an attack percentage of .433 while senior Rebecca Kamp had 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .391. St. Norbert (26-8) received nine kills from Breanne Brocker and 16 digs from Abby West.

Hope Claims Three-Set Win Over Otterbein in First Round NCAA III Tournament Match

Playing in a familiar environment, 14th ranked Hope College was able to roll to a three-set first round victory over Otterbein University (25-21,25-22,25-16) at the NCAA Regional Site of Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hope will now face Calvin in a second round match Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be the fourth of the year between the two rivals including the third in the last two weeks.

Wittenberg Rolls to First Round Win Over Rose-Hulman Institute in First Round NCAA Match

Entering its 16th consecutive NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament, the experience of No. 5 Wittenberg was too much for newcomer Rose-Hulman as the Tigers defeated the Fightin’ Engineers 3-0 (25-15,25-10,25-11) in first round tournament play at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids,MI. Wittenberg now advances to the second round where they will face Heidelberg, who defeated Geneva 3-2 in a comeback victory earlier in the day. Wittenberg will now face Heidelberg in its second round match, who it swept earlier in the year, at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
