Women’s Swimming and Diving Ranked 5th in National Poll/Men’s Team Receiving Votes

Collegeswimming.com Division III Top 25 Polls
Collegeswimming.com has released its first Division III Top 25 poll of the year and the Calvin women’s swimming and diving team is ranked fifth. Under the direction of head coach Dan Gelderloos, the Knights are currently 2-1 in dual meet competition. Meanwhile the Calvin men’s swimming and diving team which is 1-2 in dual meet competition is receiving votes in the men’s poll but is not in the top 25. The MIAA includes three men’s teams in the top 25 with Kalamazoo ranked fifth, Hope 18th and Olivet 22nd.

The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams split non-conference dual meets with visiting Wheaton Saturday afternoon at the Venema Aquatic Center.
In the women’s meet, Calvin defeated the Thunder 154-140 to improve to 1-1 in dual meet action. In the men’s meet, Calvin fell to Wheaton 171-117 to fall to 0-2 on the year.

2009-10 Calvin Men's Swimming & Diving Schedule
The 2009-10 Calvin men’s swimming and diving team enters the upcoming year with a sense of optimism as the Knights have a roster of 20 swimmers and four divers. A year ago, Calvin took fourth place in the final league standings with a fourth place team score of 335 points at the MIAA Championships.
Of the 24 members of the team 20 are either freshmen or sophomores, leaving bright hope for the future.

On the second day of weekend events for Calvin’s Swim and Dive Team, the Knights came out strong Saturday in their first conference home meet of the season. With a great turnout of fans at Calvin’s Venema Aquatic Center, the un-scored relay meet would show many of the teams where they stand amidst the competition of the MIAA.

On Friday, Calvin’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were matched up against a tough opponent in cross-town rival Grand Valley State University. The meet, held at Calvin’s Venema Aquatic Center, featured tough losses by both teams.
On the men’s side of things Grand Valley won by a score of 185 to Calvin’s 53. For the women, Grand Valley won by a score of 158 to the Knights’ final tally of 83.

King of the Mountains Jersey Press Release
SALT LAKE CITY, UT—Brad White, a 2005 Calvin College graduate, is making an impressive mark on the professional bicycling circuit. On Wednesday, White earned the 2009 Tour of Utah’s King of the Mountains jersey after an impressive climb through the mountains on the first stage of the five-day, five-stage race. In 2008, his attacking style earned him the Tour of Utah’s sprinter jersey.

Collegeswimming.com DIII Top 25 poll
The final Division III Top 25 poll of the year conducted by Collegeswimming.com has been released and the Calvin women’s team has finished eighth. Under the direction of head coach Dan Gelderloos, the Knights captured their fifth consecutive MIAA title this year and are sending 11 individuals to this week’s NCAA III Championships in Minneapolis. The Knights will be bidding for fifth consecutive top 10 national finish.

NOTRE DAME, IN—The Calvin men’s swimming and diving team closed out a solid three days of competition at the MIAA Championships Saturday night, finishing fourth in the final team standings with a team score of 334 points, finishing more than 40 points ahead of fifth place Albion.
