Men’s Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With 8-1 Loss to Spring Arbor

EAST LANSING - The Calvin men’s tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat to Spring Arbor University Monday afternoon in a match played indoors at the Michigan State Indoor Courts. The loss drops Calvin to 10-8 overall heading into a Thursday MIAA Tournament semifinal match against rival Hope. Calvin’s lone point on Monday came from sophomore Loukas Peterson (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood HS) at No. 5 singles as he fought his way to a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 win. Peterson is now 14-5 on the season. Calvin’s match against Hope on Thursday is slated to start at 4 p.m. at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts.

Men’s Tennis Defeats Alma in Regular Season Finale - Hits Double-Digit Plateau for Wins

The Calvin men’s tennis team secured a 9-0 victory at Alma Saturday afternoon. The Knights finish the regular season with an overall mark of 10-7 and a second place conference mark of 5-1. It marks the 10th consecutive year that the Calvin men’s tennis team has reached the double-digit plateau in victories. In finishing second in the MIAA regular season standings, Calvin receives the second seed for next week’s MIAA Tournament. Calvin will host a semifinal match against third-seeded Hope next Thursday. Kalamazoo is the top seed for the four-team tournament. Juniors Phil Reinken and Preston Phillips both claimed singles victories while sophomore Loukas Peterson and junior Jarrod Brower also had singles wins. Reinken and Phillips are now both 14-8 in singles play this year while Peterson is 13-5 and Brower 12-8.

Calvin Comes From Behind To Claim 5-4 Win Over Hope in Men’s Tennis

In a match that spanned two days, the Calvin men’s tennis team came from behind to claim a 5-4 victory over rival Hope Thursday afternoon at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts. The match began on Wednesday with Hope claiming two of the three doubles points but rain suspended play late Wednesday afternoon, moving the bulk of singles competition to Thursday. Calvin then claimed four of the six singles flights to come-from-behind for the win. Junior Jarrod Brower came up with the clinching point, winning a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 match at No. 5 singles that gave the Knights an insurmountable 5-3 lead. Other singles winners for Calvin included junior Preston Phillips (No. 2), sophomore Loukas Peterson (No. 4) and senior Vashan Wright (No. 6). With the win, Calvin (4-1 MIAA) also clinches the number-two seed for next week’s MIAA Tournament.
