Men’s Tennis Topples Trine 8-1 in MIAA Dual Match

The Knights took a convincing dual match against conference foe Trine, sweeping the doubles flights and winning the five of the six singles flights.  In the doubles portion of the match, the Knights went undefeated in almost uncontested fashion. Jarrod Brower and Vashan Wright, the third doubles team, defeated their Trine counterparts 8-0 and Brian DeMaagd and Loukas Peterson, the second doubles squad, nearly matched their teammates, winning 8-1. Calvin’s first doubles pair of Preston Phillips and Phillip Reinken defeated Trine’s Joe Dunbar and Dan Desper 8-6. The Knights are now 4-5 overall and square off against Albion on Saturday.

Men’s Tennis Defeated by Davenport

Calvin dipped to 3-5 overall with a 7-2 non-conference loss to Davenport University Monday afternoon at the Canepa Tennis Center in East Grand Rapids.The match was hard-fought but the Panthers won several close matches. The Panthers swept the three doubles points including 8-6 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Junior Brian DeMaagd was a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 1 singles and sophomore Loukas Peterson a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 4 singles but Davenport picked up three-set victories at 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles to secure the win. Calvin is back in action on Thursday when it hosts Trine in a conference match at 4 p.m. at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts.

Men’s Tennis Falls to Wheaton 9-0/Defeats Judson 6-3

WHEATON, IL - The Calvin men’s tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches Saturday afternoon, falling to Wheaton 9-0 and coming back to defeat Judson 6-3. The Knights are now 3-4 overall. In the win over Judson, Calvin won two of the three doubles points and four of the six singles points. Brian DeMaagd and Loukas Peterson teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles and Jarrod Brower and Vashan Wright for a win at No. 3 doubles. Singles points came from Preston Phillips (No. 2), Philip Reinken (No. 3), Peterson (No. 4) and Tom Griffin (No. 6). Calvin is back in action on Monday when it faces Davenport University in a non-conference match at the East Grand Rapids Canepa Tennis Center.
