ORLANDO, FL - The Calvin men’s tennis team suffered its second straight defeat, falling 7-2 to nationally-ranked Luther College. Luther entered the match ranked 27th nationally and seventh in the most recent ITA Central Region rankings.
Calvin’s lone doubles point came at No. 3 doubles with junior Andrew DeVlieger (Northpointe Christian HS) teaming up freshman Philip Reinken (Morton, IL) for an 8-6 win. In singles play, Calvin’s lone point came from senior Roland Eldridge (Charlotte, NC) at No. 3 singles.
Men’s Tennis Drops Narrow 5-4 Decision to Grinnell College

ORLANDO, FL - Calvin suffered a hard-fought 5-4 defeat to regionally-ranked Grinnell College Wednesday afternoon. The Knights are now 5-2 overall and 2-1 on their spring break trip. Grinnell took an early lead by winning two of the three doubles points. Calvin’s lone doubles point came from freshman Philip Reinken (Morton, IL) and sophomore Jon Goorhouse (Holland Christian HS) at No. 3 doubles.
Calvin and Grinnell then split the six singles points with junior Andrew DeVlieger (Northpointe Christian HS) winning an impressive 7-6, 1-6, 7-5 match at No. 3 singles, freshman Preston Phillips (Bexley, OH) winning at No. 4 singles and freshman Brian DeMaagd (Calvin Christian HS) winning at No. 5 singles.

ORLANDO, FL - Calvin improved to 5-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory over North Central College Tuesday afternoon. Calvin took a 2-1 lead with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and then clinched the win with victories at No 2. (Andrew Rescorla), No. 3 (Andrew DeVlieger), No. 4 (Preston Phillips) and No. 6 (Philip Reinken) singles.
Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it takes on Grinnell at 12:30 p.m.

GRANDVILLE - The Calvin men’s tennis team suffered its first loss of the season late Thursday night, bowing to Division II Grand Valley State University 9-0 at the Ramblewood Tennis Courts. Calvin is now 3-1 on the year. Calvin is scheduled to return to action next Monday when it faces Otterbein at noon in a match scheduled to played in Orlando, Florida.

The Calvin men’s tennis team upped its season record to 3-0 with a pair of non-conference victories inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center on Thursday. Calvin opened the day with a 9-0 win over Davenport University. The Knights then claimed a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Lake Superior State late Thursday night.

GRAND RAPIDS – The Calvin men’s tennis team competed at the two-day Grand Rapids City Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Orchard Hills Tennis Center. The two day competition was unscored. In addition to Calvin, teams competing included Aquinas, Grand Valley State and Grand Rapids Community College.
Men’s Tennis Opens Season With Wins Over GRCC & Spring Arbor

The Calvin men’s tennis team kicked off its season on Saturday with a pair of dual matches inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center. Calvin opened the day with a 9-0 victory over Grand Rapids Community College and followed with a 7-2 win over Spring Arbor later Saturday evening.
Calvin’s victory over Grand Rapids Community College will not count on its season record as it did not come against a four-year institution.
Calvin returns to action next Friday and Saturday when it competes at the Grand Rapids City Tournament with Aquinas, Grand Rapids Community College and Hope also competing.
Calvin Tennis Teams/Players Receive ITA All-Academic Honors

The Calvin men’s and women’s tennis teams have received the the prestigious All-Academic Team Award from the International Tennis Association (ITA). The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The men’s team is doing so for the sixth straight year while the women’s team is doing so for the second straight season.
Zeilstra and DeMaagd Receive All-MIAA Men’s Tennis Honors

The All-MIAA men’s tennis teams have been announced and two Calvin players have been so honored. Named to the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year from Calvin is senior Marcus Zeilstra while Calvin senior Steve DeMaagd has been named to the All-MIAA second team for the second straight year.
