Despite torrential rain and high winds, several members of the Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams posted strong performances at the Grand Rapids Open hosted by Aquinas College at Houseman field Saturday afternoon.

MEMPHIS, TN Ė The Calvin menís and womenís track and field teams both had strong starts to their outdoor seasons at the Rhodes College Open Invitational on Saturday. Junior Rachel Boerner led the way with an NCAA III automatic qualifying time of of 1:01.64 in the 400 meter hurdles. The time came just one week after Boerner captured the 400 meter national title at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Calvin women’s track and field team placed 11th at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships with 18 points. The Knights accomplished the 11th place berth behind two individuals as junior Rachel Boerner captured the national title in the 400 meters with a time of 55.95 while junior Sarah Reasoner was second in the shot put with a throw of 46-4. Senior Jed Christiansen also competed in the men’s 5,000 meters, placing 10th with a time of 15:03.

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field program will send three individuals to the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled to be held March 12 and 13 in Greencastle, Indiana. The national meet will be hosted by DePauw University. Representing the Calvin men will be senior Jed Christiansen in the 5,000 meter run. On the women’s side, junior Sarah Reasoner will compete in the shot put and junior Rachel Boerner will compete in the 400 meters. The Calvin sports information office caught up with Calvin head coach Bret Otte for an audio interview that previews the upcoming national meet and the subsequent outdoor season. A group of individuals from the Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams have received All-Academic accolades from the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association of America.
The USTFCCCA All-Academic award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average and must finish in the top 35 among the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.

ANGOLA, IN—The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Trine Indoor Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. In the men’s competition, Calvin took first with 139.5 points, 29.5 points ahead of Hope. In the women’s competition, Calvin rolled up a first place total of 199 points, 71 points ahead of Hope.

ALLENDALE—The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams posted a pair of NCAA (indoor) provisional qualifying marks Friday night at the Grand Rapids Championshipos hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Both provisional performances came in the women’s competition. Calvin’s first provisional mark came in the women’s shot put as junior Sarah Reasoner (Cambridge, MN) took seventh in the shot put with a provisional mark of 42-8 3/4.
In the distance medley relay, Calvin’s quartet of senior Nicole Farr (Wheaton, IL), junior Rachel Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ), sophomore Kaitlin Diemer (South Christian HS) and senior Elizabeth Smit (Kirkland, WA) took first place with a provisional qualifying tie of 12:04.18.

ALLENDALE - The first day of competition at the Grand Valley State Big Meet was indeed big for the Calvin men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams Friday night as both teams posted a handful of NCAA III qualifying times for the upcoming NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

ALLENDALE—The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action on Friday at the Grand Valley State Open and came up with a number of strong performances.
In the women’s meet, sophomore Jordan Gabrielse (Unity Christian HS) was ninth in the 400 meters (1:01.16) in her first collegiate competition. Sophomore Kaitlin Diemer (South Christian HS) had a solid effort in the 800 meters, placing third with a time of 2:19.36. Other top 10 finishes for the Calvin women included junior Gretchen Braymer (Erie, PA) placing third in the 3,000 meters (10:37.99) and sophomore Andrea Beukema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) taking ninth (11:03.89).« First < 16 17 18 19 20 > Last »
