Calvin Sending Four To NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams will be sending a combined four individuals to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday. The national meet will be hosted by Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Representing the Calvin women’s team will be seniors Rachel Boerner and Sarah Reasoner. Representing the Calvin men’s team will be junior Nick Kramer and sophomore Greg Whittle.

Boerner Qualifies for NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships - Whittle Makes a Bid

NAPERVILLE, IL—Rachel Boerner punched her ticket to next week’s NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday night and Greg Whittle most likely did too. Boerner posted an NCAA III Indoor track and field automatic qualifying time at the North Central College Last-Chance Invitational Friday night while Whittle had a strong NCAA III provisional qualifying time. The NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held next Friday and Saturday at Capital University in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio. Boerner won the 400 meters in an automatic qualifying time of 56.38. Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ/Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) is the defending national indoor and outdoor champion in the 400 meters. On the men’s side, Whittle (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg HS) hopes to make his first trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships after winning the mile run Friday night in a provisional qualifying time of 4:11.96.

Calvin Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams Capture MIAA Indoor Invitational Titles

ANGOLA, IN - The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams captured the MIAA Indoor Invitational titles on Saturday at Trine University. On the women’s side, Calvin took first place with 226.16 points with Hope second with 121.83 points. On the men’s side, Calvin posted a first place score of 188.5 points, just over 50 points ahead of second place Adrian (135.25). A big highlight for the women included an NCAA III automatic and season-best throw of 46-1 1/2 in the shot put by senior Sarah Reasoner that was good for first place. The throw places Reasoner in fourth place on the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field shot put performance list. On the men’s side, Calvin received a first place and NCAA III provisional qualifying throw of 51-11 1/4 in the shot put and a 1-2-3 finish in the mile run with three Calvin runners landing NCAA III provisional qualifying times. The sweep included a first place performance by senior Alex Wrobel (4:14.69), a second place finish by sophomore Greg Whittle (4:15.54) and a third place finish by junior Nick Kramer (4:15.57).

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams Post National Qualifying Times at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE - On the first day of competition at the Grand Valley State Big Meet, the Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams received a handful of sterling performances. On the women’s side, senior Rachel Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ/Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) posted an NCAA III Indoor provisional qualifying time of 57.04 in the 400 meters, just missing an automatic qualifying mark. On the men’s side, junior Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN/Illiana Christian HS) posted an NCAA III Indoor automatic qualifying time of 14:25.80 in the 5,000 meters. Teammate Rhett Morici (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North HS) also had an NCAA III Indoor provisional qualifying time of 14:52.60 in the 5,000 meters.

Calvin concluded competition on Saturday.

Calvin Track & Field Teams Emerge Victorious at First-Ever Calvin (Indoor) Invitational

Both the menís and womenís track and field teams emerged victorious in their third meet of the young season. Their victories came at their own Calvin Invitational.The meet, which consisted of local rivals Hope, Alma, and Aquinas, was held in the Huizenga Track and Tennis Center on the Sturrus Track.  It marked the first time Calvin has hosted an indoor event and the first time since 2007 that Calvin has hosted any sort of track and field meet.The men prevailed with a score of 183.  Hope followed with 143 points and Aquinas and Alma rounded out the meet with scores of 114 and 82.5, respectively.As a team, the Calvin women squeaked out a victory with 155 points, a half-point ahead of Hope which garnered 154.5 points. Aquinas scored 126.5 and Alma scored 87 points.  Calvinís 4x400 relay team propelled the Knights to their late lead with a first place finish of 4:07.  The relay consisted of freshman Julie Busscher, Olivia Butler, junior Jordan Gabrielse, and Rachel Boerner.

Bret Otte Talks Indoor Track & Field as Knights Prepare to Host Calvin Invitational

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams will host the first indoor competition inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center on the Sturrus Track this Friday. Action is slated to begin at 3 p.m. In addition to Calvin, competing teams will include Aquinas, Alma and Hope. The meet will be a scored competition. The meet is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Calvin head men’s and women’s track and field coach Bret Otte sat down recently to discuss the upcoming Calvin Indoor Track and Field Invitational as well as the current indoor season. Calvin Track & Field Teams Open Indoor Season at Bob Eubanks Open at Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE - The Calvin men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams opened their seasons on Friday night at the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State University. Both teams turned in a number of noteworthy performances. On the women’s side, senior Sarah Reasoner (Cambridge, MN/Cambridge-Isanti HS) took fifth in the shot put with a strong NCAA III indoor provisional qualifying throw of 45-2 1/4. The throw is just nine inches shy of an NCAA III (indoor) automatic qualifying mark. Senior Rachel Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ/Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) also got off to a quick start, placing fourth in the 400 meter dash with an NCAA III indoor provisional qualifying time of 57.82. Because the competition was held on an oversized 300 meter indoor track, Boerner’s converted time is 58.32.
