Calvin Men’s Cross Country Takes 11th/Women Place 13th at NCAA III Championships

WINNECONE, WISC. - The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the NCAA III Championships on Saturday at the Lake Breeze Golf Club with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh serving as host. On the men’s side, Calvin took 11th in the 8K race with a team score of 352 points. On the women’s side, Calvin finished 13th in the 6K race with a team score of 399 points. Calvin produced three All-Americans on Saturday with senior Jodi Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL/Chicago Christian HS) finishing 14th individually in the women’s race while senior Dan Kerr (Petoskey/Petoskey HS) was 21st and junior Matt VanderRoest (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Huron HS) 22nd in the men’s race.

Brian Diemer has been named the Great Lakes Regional Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Now in his sixth year as Calvin women’s cross country coach, Diemer is receiving the award for the fourth straight year. This fall, Diemer led the Calvin women’s cross country team to its fourth straight Great Lakes Regional crown. The Knights posted a first place team score of 69 points at the regional meet hosted by Oberlin College this past Saturday. The Calvin women’s cross country team will head into the national meet this Saturday in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, ranked sixth nationally. Meanwhile, the Calvin men’s cross country team will head into the national meet on Saturday ranked fourth. Saturday’s races will feature a live video webcast. Calvin Cross Country Teams Capture Great Lakes Regional Titles - Earn Berths to National Meet

OBERLIN, OH - The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams are headed back to the NCAA III Championships. Both teams captured Great Lakes Regional titles on Saturday with the ninth-ranked Calvin women’s team taking first place with 69 points while the fourth-ranked Calvin men’s team cruised to a first place win of 38 points. Saturday’s regional competition was hosted by Oberlin College. As regional champions, both Calvin teams receive automatic berths to next week’s NCAA III Championships in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Calvin women will be making their 22nd appearance at the NCAA III Championships which ranks third on the all-time NCAA III women’s cross country list for team appearances. The Calvin men will be making their 27th appearance at the national meet which also ranks third on the all-time NCAA III men’s cross country list.
